Under general supervision, the primary responsibility is to provide writing instruction to students who are enrolled in a variety of occupational programs and general studies courses and teach writing courses in the general education courses such as Introduction to College Writing. The instructor must be skilled in providing instruction in large group and small group setting, yet mindful of the individual learning needs of the students in the group.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities (include, but not limited to)- Ability to effectively deliver instruction, integrate technology into teaching of course material, work as part of a team, and use strong communication and organizational skills.
- Available to teach days, nights and in multiple formats (face-to-face, hybrid, internet)
- Must be open to feedback and have a growth mindset around instructional effectiveness.
- Must be accessible to students and maintain positive relationships with the various occupational programs at WCTC and with industry-related organizations and business.
- Ability to work with the curriculum, course materials, and at times technology appropriate for program and general studies courses.
- Provide writing support and teach courses assigned in the Writing Center.
- Design supplemental materials to reinforce learning needs and course content
- Other duties include, but are not limited to, assisting fulltime faculty with Writing Center functions.
1. Master’s Degree in English Composition or Rhetoric or Master’s degree in a related field with 18 graduate level credits in writing
2. One year of post-secondary teaching experience required
3. 2 years Post-secondary experience in designing, planning and implementing alternative delivery formats (internet, accelerated, hybrid) and using Canvas or similar learning management system
4. Teaching experience, work experience or experience developing curriculum in the area of international or diversity studies desirable
