Job Description Summary:
The Manager of Career Development provides leadership for comprehensive career development programming for students. Career development focuses on counseling and assistance for students by providing resources and opportunities to encourage career exploration and self-assessment. Specific emphasis will be given to MIReconnect and Futures for Frontliners students and any occupational students seeking careers after graduation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for connecting and building relationships with a wide range of local employers, and creating and implementing career development programming for SMC students.
Provides individual and group career counseling.
Administers and interprets vocational interest inventories.
Provides career-related seminars for interested students, including resume writing, mock interviews, soft skills, and career searches.
Maintains an up-to-date career resources library
Supports resume development for participating students
Coordinates with Institutional Research and Alumni Relations on the annual graduate employment survey.
Maintains, posts, and/or distributes information concerning full and part-time jobs on the campus job board.
Maintains membership and active involvement in professional organizations in the community.
Reviews and updates annually all career development publications such as the graduate survey.
Manages all aspects of the Majors Fair in the fall and Career and Internship Fair in the spring.
Assists faculty and students to secure placement and complete necessary internship and practicum reporting
Interacts college wide with deans and department heads to support the mission of career development

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
3 years of professional experience in a college setting or in business or human resources training and development
Understanding of the principles of college student development and the policies and structure of a community college
Knowledge and experience in career counseling techniques, job trends, career development skills, planning events, public relations, and networking


Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in student personnel services, counseling and guidance, higher education, or a discipline whose preparation is applicable to this position
