JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Program Director, the Coordinator for Competitive Sports is responsible for the daily administrative, operational and programmatic support of the Competitive Sports Unit. The position implements a wide variety of day-to-day responsibilities designed to ensure operational performance and provide quality service to members of the Student Recreation Center and associated competitive teams. Weekend and evening work is required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Personnel Management

  1. Provide supervisory support to student employees in the performance of their daily responsibilities
  2. Promote and maintain high-quality performance standards for competitive sports student personnel
  3. Implement ongoing student employee training and development programs
  4. Evaluate student employee performance, providing written evaluations on an annual basis
  5. Maintain employee scheduling, monitor for accuracy, and provide payroll verification
  6. Collaborate with Recreation Human Resources during Centralized Student Employee recruitment, hiring, recognition, and retention processes

Program Management

  1. Serve as Competitive Sports Site Manager ensuring program policy, maintenance, safety, and customer service needs are met
  2. Assume administrative and management leadership of assigned Leagues and Tournaments
  3. Provide ongoing advisement to assigned Club Sport Teams
  4. Provide logistical support for programmatic units with the delivery of member services
  5. Coordinate competition site and equipment maintenance with internal and external constituents
  6. Implement risk management policy and procedure for all activities
  7. Provide timely and accurate incident, accident, risk management, and maintenance reporting
  8. Maintain accurate and accessible records related to all Competitive Sports activities including participation and financial reporting
  9. Maintain accurate inventory of all programmatic equipment and operational resources
  10. Provide direct support of events hosted by UConn Recreation
  11. Assist with planning, development, promotion, and execution of a comprehensive ongoing schedule of competitive sports programming
  12. Develop and expand professional knowledge of competitive sports programming in order to ensure quality and provide a wide range of activities that meet the needs of students
  13. Drive department vehicles in support of satellite operations including competition site supervision, facility and field maintenance, and scheduled special events

Planning & Assessment

  1. Provide timely and accurate reporting of Competitive Sports participant usage and financial data
  2. Recommend operational and programmatic changes based on continuing need assessment
  3. Assist in the development of the annual operating budget and the end of year report
  4. Recommend annual program, equipment, facility, maintenance, policy, and budgetary needs

Additional Duties

  1. Provide leadership for assigned departmental programs and events
  2. Instruct CPR/First Aid/AED classes
  3. Serve on department or university assigned work teams and committees
  4. Serve as Student Recreation Center Manager on Duty as required
  5. Additional duties as requested by supervisor or departmental leadership

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Two (2) to three (3) years of related experience
  • Demonstrated organizational skills necessary to independently manage multiple projects
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills necessary for effective work relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate information
  • Demonstrated understanding of, stated commitment to and/or experience working with diverse populations
  • Current Adult CPR/AED Certification
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Master’s degree
  2. Documented professional experience in competitive sports management
  3. Direct experience working in student or customer service
  4. Demonstrated experience facilitating employee development and training
  5. Demonstrated experience integrating principles of diversity and inclusion into all aspects of competitive sports management
  6. One (1) or more officiating certifications related to applicable competitive sports
  7. Proficient with software applications related to department operations (e.g. Fusion, Connect2Concepts, Sub-it-Up)
  8. First-Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Certification
