A one year Post-doctoral Research Associate position is open in the research group of Prof. Fred Heberle in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The researcher will investigate asymmetric lipid bilayers.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• The Heberle Group investigates the properties of model lipid bilayers that mimic the compositional asymmetry found in natural cell membranes.
• The ideal postdoctoral research associate candidate will work on assigned research projects in which biophysical principles and techniques are used to gain insight into the role of lipid structure in interleaflet coupling. This work includes, but is not limited to, the continued development of methods for preparing asymmetric liposomes with precisely controlled inner and outer leaflet compositions.
• The postdoctoral research associate candidate must be knowledgeable and experienced in the preparation of model asymmetric lipid membranes and their quantitative characterization with biophysical techniques such as differential scanning calorimetry, fluorescence spectroscopy and microscopy, and small-angle scattering. Familiarity with the Mathematica or MATLAB programming environments, are a plus.
