Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.:Master’s degree in higher education or related field.
Five or more years of progressively responsible administrative and leadership experience in student housing and residential life in a large college or university setting.
Experience with fiscal management of an auxiliary budget.
Experience with residential life and education, housing administrative services, and/or facilities management.
Experience with staff management in a comprehensive department.
Doctoral degree in higher education or student development-related field.
Ten years of progressively responsible administrative and leadership experience in student housing and residence life in a large college or university setting.
A strong administrative record of leading a comprehensive department of housing and residence life including proficiency in the areas of strategic planning and decision making, budgeting, human resource management, legal issues, assessment, and technology; commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in work and student settings; understanding of and commitment to student development with an emphasis on leadership, risk management, and inclusive excellence along with Living Learning Communities and Residential Curriculum model; demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a university setting.
The Executive Director for the department of Housing and Residential Life reports directly to the Vice President for Student Affairs and is responsible for providing inclusive administrative and managerial leadership for the department. The Executive Director builds, supports, and sustains a campus-wide culture that centers the residential experience as an important factor in fostering sense of belonging, student persistence, and student success. The Executive Director serves as the senior administrative officer for the department working within a team-oriented environment. The areas of responsibility
include: residential life and education, housing administrative services, business services, facilities services, and off-campus living services. As a member of the Division’s leadership team, the Executive Director advances the University’s learning mission by providing leadership for department services, programs, and activities that foster student development and engagement for a diverse student body. The Executive Director works to assure departmental strategic initiatives, goals and objectives align with and contribute to division and university vision, mission, and goals.
DEPARTMENTAL LEADERSHIP
Provide vision, leadership, and oversight for all aspects of the university’s comprehensive Housing and Residencial Life program. Provide leadership, implementation, and oversight of departmental strategic planning processes, human resources functions, and policy development needs. Establish departmental priorities supporting student learning, engagement, and success by fostering and maintaining partnerships across the university to develop departmental programs and services. Provides administrative supervision of the following areas: staff selection, supervision, development and evaluation, budget development and management, strategic planning, and program assessment and evaluation. Provide direct supervision for the members of the department’s senior staff and indirect supervision for all other members of the department.
RESIDENTIAL EDUCATION & STUDENT SUCCESS
Establish strong collaborations with faculty and academic staff regarding opportunities for expansion of Living Learning communities and other retention initiatives. Provide direction for student engagement and development utilizing the Residential Curriculum model Work collaboratively with university stakeholders regarding opportunities for student engagement, Living Learning communities and retention initiatives.
BUDGET, OCCUPANCY, AND FACILITIES MANAGEMENT
Provide strategic budget development and management including budget development at the enterprise/housing operations level, and financial planning for multi-building capital improvements and new construction. Provide oversight for strategic occupancy management to facilitate student success and meet targets.
CRISIS MANAGEMENT, POLICY DEVELOPMENT, RISK MANAGEMENT
Establish, review, revise and implement campus housing policies and procedures while ensuring adherence to TSUS policy, state and Federal Laws, and guidelines. Oversight of day-to-day and wide-scale crisis, behavioral intervention, and conduct issues as well as resident concerns. Manage and coordinate student issues and crises as they arise. Provide guidance for handling student concerns. Serve as the primary point of contact or incident command person for residence hall crises. Communicate with and respond to parents and family members.
DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION
Model a strong understanding of and appreciation for the University’s, Division’s, and Department’s priorities related to creating inclusive and equitable environments, policies, services, and programming.
DIVISION LEADERSHIP
Serve as a member of the leadership team in the Division of Student Affairs and work to fulfill the mission and long-range goals of the Division and University through the services and programs of the department.
COMMITTEE REPRESENTATION
Serve as liaison to the Director of Auxiliary Services regarding residential dining services. Serve on or chair numerous University and Division committees, teams, or task forces.
Other Duties
Coordinates special projects and other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Student Affairs or designee.
