Job Details
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
•Administer the Museum membership program, including a new membership campaign.
•Oversee and work with the part-time communications director to promote the Museum and its programs.
•Public program development and management.
•Promote the Museum as a curricular resource to Hofstra University faculty, making connections from the art collection across disciplines and leading class discussions. Other duties assigned as needed by the Director.
•The Assistant Director will work well in a team atmosphere and support the mission of the Museum by engaging with both the University community and the public.
•Responsible for developing, planning and implementing short and long-range goals for the Museum.
This is a part-time on-campus position, working 20 hours a week between Monday-Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm. On occasion evening or weekend hours may be required. This position is for the period of August 1, 2021 – August 31, 2022.
Qualifications:•M.A. or M.F.A. degree in Art History/Fine Arts/Anthropology/Museum Studies from an accredited program required.
•The candidate should have experience working in an art museum and teaching art history at the college level.
•Possess in-depth knowledge of art history.
•The successful candidate will be flexible, creative, have excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to maintain accurate records and documents, have strong computer skills, and experience with graphic imaging software (Photoshop, scanning, etc.).
•The position requires a person who will develop and support scholarly access to the collection and has knowledge of art history as well as experience with the curatorial process.
•Ability to be a member of a small team of museum professionals and to work with a diverse group of faculty, students and visitors.
•Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and meet timelines in a deadline driven environment and to work autonomously.
