Position Summary:

The assistant director of campus activities serves as manager and technical manager for users of the Corey Union and Brown Auditorium and is the supervisor for all campus activities and Corey Union student staff. In addition, the assistant director works with assigned student groups to advise and coordinate events. This position requires frequent work on evenings and weekends based on academic calendar and operational need to best service the needs of the campus.

Major Responsibilities:

Administration/Management:

  • Supervise the Campus Activities student staff with the day-to-day responsibility for, and management and operation of Corey Union and its cost centers.
  • Coordinate the facilities schedule in Corey Union
  • Meet with users of Corey Union (on and off campus) to assist with planning programs and activities.
  • Assist the director with scheduling of renovation and maintenance projects for Corey Union and the Brown Auditorium.

Personnel:

  • Supervise, develop, select and evaluate a graduate assistant, student director staff, a highly skilled and efficient student audio visual crew, and other student employees in Corey Union.
  • Review biweekly student employee payrolls.

Technical:

  • Serve as technical manager for events in Corey Union and Brown Auditorium.
  • Serve as technical adviser for college activities including student activities and conference activities.

Programming:

  • Serve as supervisor of the Information Center and its student employees.
  • Assist with the coordination of student activities, major weekend programming, and other programs developed through the Campus Activities Office.
  • Serve as adviser for SUNY Cortland’s Student Activities Board (SAB): includes 2 hour weekly meetings, planning and attending events averaging one a week during the semester; traveling with students to an annual conference; assisting in the planning and execution of the annual Spring Fling with direct responsibility for all technical aspects of the spring fling concert.
  • Initiate in the coordination of programming for the college community through participation in Homecoming Weekend, Family Weekend, Campus Artist and Lecture Series (CALS), Welcome Weekend, and new student orientation committees.
  • Serve as a resource to campus groups for program development.
  • Serve on committees as required.
  • Serve as property control officer for Corey Union.

Functional and Supervisory Relationships:

  • Reports to the associate director of campus activities for leadership and development.
  • Supervises student, temporary service and work-study employees working and supervising the Fay Corey Union and Brown Auditorium.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Customer service experience
  • Evidence of computer and audio-visual technical skills
  • Experience working with individuals from different cultural backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree
  • Professional experience working in a campus activities
  • Professional experience working in a college union environment
