Primary Purpose and Essential Functions:
The Conservatory of Music at the University of the Pacific announces a part-time, non-tenure-track appointment for Assistant Professor of Practice in tuba and euphonium. We are seeking a dynamic and innovative teacher/performer whose background, professional performing accomplishments, and pedagogy will attract and retain students to the wide variety of program offerings at Pacific's Conservatory. Excellent applied lesson teaching is the primary responsibility.

Non-tenure-track faculty members collaborate in fulfilling the University's mission to provide a superior, student-centered learning experience integrating liberal arts and professional education and preparing individuals for lasting achievement and responsible leadership in their careers and communities.

Part-time faculty are appointed as needed by each unit and considered as less than full time annual appointment as specified by each unit. Part time is determined by the unit based on a comparison to year-long appointments. Time of service on a part-time appointment may not accrue to time for appointment with tenure. Appointments for full-time non-tenure-track faculty members may be issued as single-year or multi-year terms, and may be renewable.

Minimum Qualifications:
• A master’s degree or its equivalent in the field of specialization; a candidate without a master’s degree must have equivalent educational or professional experience in the appropriate area of instructional responsibility, and the recommendation for appointment must contain a statement of this equivalence. Evidence of exemplary college teaching experience and of scholarly or artistic achievements.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Proven evidence of the ability to attract, retain, and inspire diverse students across multiple areas of interest.
• An ability to develop, mentor, and teach forward-thinking and relevant 21st century musicians at a level appropriate to their major.
• Demonstrated ability as a performer and collaborator with faculty colleagues as a chamber musician, soloist, and in other educational settings.
• Experience in developing multi-faceted and entrepreneurial musical concepts that can be delivered through studio teaching, performance, and/or in class settings.
• Being a part of a highly motivated and invested faculty that puts student learning at the forefront of the university’s mission.
• A demonstrated commitment to inclusion and equity as a foundational strength in music and education.

Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative but not definitive of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Frequent sitting and computer use. Occasional walking, standing, bending, kneeling and use of phone. Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment with use of computer and phone. Work performed during standard business hours between 8AM and 5PM. Occasional overtime required to meet critical business deadlines. May require some nights and weekends.

Special Instructions:
Applicant must provide a cover letter, curriculum vita, links to videos of candidate, ideally in teaching and performance settings, statement of teaching philosophy, three letters of reference which include statements supporting the candidate’s fit for the position; and contact information for two additional references whom may be contacted by the search committee. Review of applications starts immediately and will continue until position is filled.
