RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director for Campus Life is responsible for developing and maintaining student engagement through student activities and residential learning communities that provide safe and inclusive opportunities for student learning. Emerging from the values and goals as stated in the “Life Together” document, student development and learning, and academic excellence, the Director supports staff towards facilitating spaces for engagement with EMU undergraduate students. With leadership for Residence Life and Student Programs, the Director for Campus Life oversees the general operation of the departments, maintaining budget and records, and evaluation of all services. As she/he collaborates with the resources of Student Life, the Director is responsible for supporting campus crisis intervention and consultations. They work closely with other Student Life Directors towards divisional goals and priorities.
Education: Master's degree in student personnel, youth ministries, educational administration, student affairs, higher education administration, restorative justice, or other relevant field is preferred along with significant experience in youth and young adult services or ministries.
Experience: Demonstrated competence in culturally competent program development and administration, staff training and supervision, leadership, decision-making, budget management, and ability to work effectively in a team relationship. Training in Restorative Justice approaches to community life and student discipline is preferred. Experience with collegiate housing, residential life and effective supervisory experience is highly desirable.
Special Skills: Use cultural competency to establish rapport and organizational collaboration campus wide. Possess a clear understanding of the principles and purposes of student development with a strong working knowledge of the ethical and legal practices of the student affairs profession. High levels of stamina and a love for college students with leadership skills to supervise young professionals, empowering them to perform their assignments. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with proficiency in analytical and critical thinking with the ability to make decisions following appropriate consultation. Strong organizational abilities with skills in planning, managing, supervising, and budgeting with computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheet competencies and student information systems.
Position Details: Full-time position. Remuneration and benefits commensurate with experience and education in accordance with the administrative pay scale.
