Job Description:


The Assistant Resident Director is responsible for facilitating a living and learning environment, that is conducive to the personal development and academic achievement of all residents. This is a 10 month, 12 hours per week, live in position. The building this Assistant Resident Director will be responsible for houses roughly 30 students. The flexibility required of this position means working outside of regular business hours.


The Assistant Resident Director is provided an unfurnished apartment with utilities (Cable, Heating, Water, and Electrical) covered, a meal plan for the Dining Center, and use of the colleges Fitness Center.


Job Duties


  • Commitment to diversity and cultural competence with the ability to work with and support diverse groups of students;
  • Communicate regularly with residents through individual interaction and community meetings;
  • Serve as part of the Resident Director (RD) duty rotation;
  • Handling and documenting inappropriate behavior by residents;
  • Assist students in understanding and adhering to COVID-19 guidelines, as well as the College's rules and regulations in the Housing Agreement and Student Code of Conduct through educational meetings and conversations.;
  • Weekly responsibility for 12 hours of service, including but not limited to:
    • Bi-Weekly Residence Life Meetings
    • Weekly One-One with supervisor
    • In Hall Availability Hours (alternate between daytime and evening hours)
    • Individual Hall & Campus Wide programming
    • Monthly Hall Meetings
  • Working with individual students or groups regarding personal issues and making appropriate referrals when needed;
  • Being present and working the opening and closing of the residence halls at the start of the semesters, breaks, and all vacation / break periods;
  • Some physical activity, including but not limited to set up/breakdown and rounds of campus on a regular basis;
  • Other job duties as required or assigned.

Managerial and Supervisory Responsibilities


  • Responsible for supervising Community Advisor staff.


Requirements:


  • Bachelor's Degree, required;
  • COVID-19 Vaccination, required;
  • Previous experience in residence life, preferred;
  • Knowledge of issues pertaining to college life, required;
  • Commitment and ability to create and maintain a diverse, multicultural community, required;
  • Demonstrated experience in multicultural issues with a focus on education and training, required;
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, intervention and crisis management skills, required;
  • Experience working with computers, preferred;
  • Valid Driver's License, required.

The Dean College Athletics Department is a Division III member of the NCAA and competes as a member of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC), and complies with all NCAA Division III Rules and Regulations.
