The BFA in Animation Program is a competitive, hands-on, and demanding program that recruits highly-talented and committed students. In 2018, Villa Maria College added a complementary BFA in Game Design. Villa Maria has three state-of-the-art animation labs and one dedicated game design lab, each with 16 workstations and Cintiq tablets, including software such as the Autodesk Entertainment Creation Suite, Zbrush, Substance Painter, Adobe CC, and Toon Boom Harmony. There is also a stop-motion studio that uses Dragon Stop-Motion, as well as a separate puppet-building facility. The program offers students HD digital video cameras, digital still cameras, as well as an audio sound effects library. Cross-program collaboration is also strongly encouraged, typically with the Music and Digital Filmmaking programs.

Essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Teach a minimum of 24 credit hour equivalences per year.

• Provide student-centered instruction in all courses

• Review and develop curricula.

• Serve as academic advisor to students.

• Participate in program assessment activities

• Develop plans for the use of equipment, instructional aids and supplies.

• Assist in the development of grant materials relevant to the faculty member’s role and duties at the College.

• Assist in the preparation of program and recruitment materials and participate in recruitment activities

Essential qualifications include:

• M.F.A. in Animation or Game Design is highly preferred; however alternative degrees will be considered.

• Preference given to candidates with teaching experience.

• Knowledge of 2D and/or 3D animation software required.

• Knowledge of UDK or Unreal software strongly preferred.

• Knowledge of Visual and Special Effects software and techniques a plus.

• Game Design or Animation Industry experience a plus.
