Position Highlights:We seek an Assistant Director for the Master’s in Development Practice (MDP), which is housed in the School of Geography, Development and Environment (SGDE). The program offers a professional master’s degree for students who will work in international development. The job is a full time, through the end of the fiscal year (06/30/2022) appointment with the possibility of renewal. It involves teaching and day to day management of the MDP program.

Duties & Responsibilities:- Act as needed as instructor or co-instructor of MDPcourses that include DVP 600, DVP 601, DVP630, DVP 641, DVP 642a, and DVP 909,and DVP 699 (independent study)
- Assist director with fundraising: identifyingsources of funding, helping prepare fundraising proposals and budgets, liaisingwith appropriate University offices for permissions, strategy, budgets, etc.
- Develop print, online, audio, video, and multimediacontent for the MDP website; disseminate of MDP news and features, includingthe MDP Blog; update and improve the navigability and user-friendliness of thewebsite; make strategic use of social media outlets such as Facebook andTwitter
- Arrange social and networking events for the program(e.g, coffee mornings, photo exhibits, and student presentations)
- Develop and execute improved student recruitmentstrategies; field inquiries and cultivate applicants; ensure timely completion,submission, and review of applications; work to maximize financial aid packagesfor incoming and continuing students; contact MDP applicants, responding toqueries of interest in the program and corresponding with students who havebeen admitted; follow up with international students to make sure they haveapplied for grants, direct them to funding opportunities and ensure that theyhave the necessary documents for a visa
- Mentor MDP students in course selection, practicumdesign, selection and preparation; provide career advice and preparation;consult with individual students about their academic, funding, professional,and personal concerns, and helping them to design constructive plans of action;and assist students with developing their online presence within and beyond theMDP website
- Obtain updates from, and promote engagement by MDPalumni and other affiliates and supporters of the program
- Identify and pursue funding opportunities forstudents around the university more broadly than just SBS, as well as outsidethe university
- Represent the MDP Program as necessary within andoutside the University
- Update core program materials when necessary (e.g.,practicum guide, student handbook.)
- Additional duties may beassigned
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience required
- PhD in a social science discipline with experience in international development
- Prior teaching experience at a university level

Our Main and Health Sciences campuses are located near downtown Tucson.
