Undergraduate Research & Creative Activities has an opening for a part-time (50% FTE) University Staff (unclassified) URCA Business Services Coordinator position.

Jobs in this career family provide general business operations of the organization or a combination of operational responsibilities covering multiple career families.  Functions include institutional research, statistical analysis, policy development and review, strategic planning and broad unit business operations such as parking and transportation services, risk management, childcare services, real estate and property management, retail services or job responsibilities that combine fiscal, HR and operational management responsibilities.

Professionals at the intermediate level are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. 

At the intermediate level, duties may be more limited in scope and are performed with guidance and direction from other professionals.

Nature of Work:
The Office of Undergraduate Research & Creative Activities (URCA) connects CU Denver students with the research and creative mission of the University. Our programs facilitate collaboration between students and faculty to incorporate inquiry, design, investigation and discovery into learning experiences within and beyond the classroom. 

The URCA Business Services Coordinator serves a crucial role in the function of this office by managing, coordinating, and overseeing all fiscal and Human Resource aspects of URCA’s student-facing programs, including the Education through Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (EURēCA!) programs, the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP), and the annual Research and Creative Activities Symposium (RaCAS). 

The position exercises initiative to achieve organizational goals and objectives, maintains confidentiality, and establishes and maintains positive working relationships. This position will oversee the functionality of daily business tasks and requires considerable organization, focus, analytical and technical skills. The position directly manages and is responsible for budgetary tracking, human resource processes and reporting, and assisting in troubleshooting complications as they arise. In addition, this position requires a working knowledge of all current University policies that are relevant to business services which may include, but not be limited to procurement, human resources, budget, events, and travel.  

This half-time, University Staff position will embody several key responsibilities – managing the hiring and bi-weekly payroll of EURēCA! students within the University’s HCM HR system; communicating fiscal expectations to students and faculty engaged in URCA programs; performing program-specific organizational and administrative functions; and serving as a campus resource on the use of the Federal Work-Study mechanism to support student research and creative activities. The Business Services Coordinator is a key member of the URCA team, facilitating the onboarding and success of students engaged with our office.

This position reports to the URCA Director

Examples of Work Performed:

  • Performs hiring and on-boarding functions for the Office of Undergraduate Research & Creative Activities (URCA). This includes both HCM HR and logistics.
  • Effectively handles sensitive and confidential issues on behalf of the Office with timeliness, discretion, professionalism, and consideration of the perspective of Office.
  • Executes projects assigned by the URCA Director.
  • Processes and approves bi-monthly timesheets for URCA students - including creating and processing new positions and requisitions in HCM, tracking and maintaining internal student personnel records (work-study eligibility and available funds, sick leave, etc.) on a bi-weekly basis, and submitting requested bi-monthly payroll information.
  • Supports URCA director, students and mentors in all HR & Finance matters. Maintains open lines of communication among all parties.
  • Performs procurement functions including travel card, procurement card, purchase orders and associated budget management (speed type audits/reports, allowable expenditures, etc.) for Office as needed.
  • Independently determines appropriate account for all allocation of expenses and ensures financial transactions are appropriate and comply with all relevant University regulations and policies.
  • Analyzes and interprets URCA budgets to forecast spending projections and needs.
  • Interprets financial data to oversee operating costs, ensuring budget and spending are on track.
  • Serves as an educational resource for departments, schools, and colleges interested in utilizing the EURēCA! Work-Study model internally (HCM and Handshake logistics, bridge between department and Student Employment Office).
  • Schedules and coordinates URCA committee meetings. Organizes and sends application materials, reviews, and results.
  • Maintains accurate records of current and prior URCA students, publications resulting from URCA-funded projects, and URCA alumni post-graduation plans.
  • Assists with tasks related to the planning and organization of the annual Research and Creative Activities Symposium (RaCAS)
  • Serves on EURēCA! and/or UROP selection committees as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary and Benefits:
The hiring range for this position has been established at $22,263 to $23,500 (0.50 FTE).  

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in business, business administration, finance, accounting, education, communications, public administration, or a directly related field from an accredited institution. Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis, but not for the specific experience.
  • One (1) year of professional level experience providing HR and payroll support services, budget management (i.e. accounting, gathering and analyzing data to prepare reports, etc.), and/or program coordination.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience utilizing technology that support business operations in higher education (HCM or related HRIS systems, procurement system, CU Market Place, CU M-Fin reports, etc.).
  • HR experience, which includes recruitment and/or onboarding.
  • Procurement management or reconciliation experience.
  • Experience enforcing and explaining complex College and University policies and procedures.
  • Professional experience advising or mentoring diverse student populations in a higher education setting.
  • Experience working in an undergraduate, graduate, or research setting.
