This position will create full descriptive metadata for 400 probate records (2600 individual files) from the State Archives of South Carolina. Working with the Digital Collections Librarian at UofSC, the successful candidate will receive a one-year, part-time appointment to work under an ASPIRE II grant—Southern History Archives Research and Education (SHARE) Consortium. Appointment is July 15, 2021 – July 14, 2022. Candidate will be fully trained on University Libraries’ Digital Collections methodology and best practices in metadata. Additional students will be working on transcripts, which will require coordination and good communication on the part of this grant assistant.
The descriptive metadata utilized will be Qualified Dublin Core, following South Carolina Digital Library’s metadata best practices and guidelines (https://scmemory.org/for-contributors/guidelines-resources/#page-content). Using CONTENTdm (https://www.oclc.org/en/contentdm.html) as the primary repository, these materials will be uploaded and double-checked for metadata accuracy and scan quality.Qualifications:
Required:Number of Vacancies:
A bachelor’s degree.
Experience with class projects that focus on detail-orientation in metadata.
Experience with project management, time management, and project independence.
Excellent written and verbal communication.
Organized, self-starting, and demonstration of project follow-through and completion on resume.
