Position Summary:

The College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University seeks scholars who are committed to supporting the learning needs of students from diverse backgrounds and to engaging communities underrepresented in higher education. Florida Atlantic University is committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all who interact in our community. In building this environment, we strive to attract students, faculty and staff from a variety of cultures, backgrounds and life experiences. Florida Atlantic University embodies a culture of strategic and collaborative community engagement that results in mutual benefit to the institution and the diverse internal and external communities that it serves.

FAU’s Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine invites applications for the position of Academic Integrative Health Physician to lead a new clinical, educational and research initiative in integrative health. Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, this individual will play a key role in building and shaping a new integrative health clinical practice, in collaboration with the FAU Medicine Primary Care Practice.

The College of Medicine has received foundation funding in support of the development and launch of this innovative clinical and educational initiative. In addition to leading the development of a high quality clinical practice with an emphasis on nutrition, mindfulness, and other integrative health approaches, this individual will participate in a variety of educational initiatives targeting medical students, residents, and the community, as well as develop research priorities to further the evidence base in the field.

The integrative health clinical practice and research initiative will further enhance the available clinical services provided by the college, advancing its reputation and visibility locally and nationally, through collaboration with established integrative health programs across the country.

This position includes direct patient care and teaching activities, such as providing content expertise for courses or electives in integrative health. The successful candidate will provide community outreach activities and training opportunities as needed in order to promote proactive, preventative, holistic care throughout FAU and the broader community. The candidate is expected to provide strategic leadership and vision for an inter-professional team to achieve excellence in clinical services, engaging in educational activities, research and scholarship. They will also be responsible for budgetary development and administration of the initiative, maximizing available resources for the integrative health practice.

The Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine is one of the most recent LCME-accredited medical schools in the U.S. The college matriculates 64 medical students each year and is nationally recognized for its innovative curriculum, which includes a holistic HealthFirst Health and Wellness initiative. As a community-based medical school, our mission is to advance the health and well-being of our community by training future generations of humanistic clinicians and scientists and translating discovery to patient-centered care. To further FAU’s commitment to promote retention of physicians in Florida, the college became an accredited sponsor of graduate medical education programs in 2014, launching six programs between 2014 and 2018. The college also hosts multiple graduate degree programs including thesis and non-thesis MS programs in Biomedical Science, a PhD track in Integrated Biomedical Science, and an MD/PhD program with The Scripps Research Institute in Jupiter, Florida. Our physicians and scientists collaborate to develop innovative approaches to treat and prevent disease.
