The Office of Global Affairs in the Division of Academic Affairs was established to coordinate all student community, faculty, and curricula-related international activities. A comprehensive office of Global Affairs is necessary to secure East Carolina University’s position as a contemporary university addressing the concerns of a globally interdependent society.
East Carolina’s commitment to promoting student success, public service and regional transformation through global awareness is expressed in the ECU Strategic Plan. To ensure a focused and effective program this comprehensive office draws together elements of international study, virtual exchange, intensive English training, and international student and scholar services. Only with the closely coordinated and highly visible Office of Global Affairs will East Carolina University be in the position to advance and enhance its international presence through academia, exchange, and economic development.Job Duties :
The Coordinator for Faculty-Led Study Abroad will effectively administer East Carolina University’s faculty-led study abroad programs including marketing, recruiting, advising students in program choice, and managing overall applications for summer sessions and the ECU Tuscany semester-long programs run throughout the entire academic year. Each summer there are usually twenty to forty ECU faculty-led study abroad/travel courses available for undergraduate/graduate students. Summer study abroad programs are offered in cooperation with ECU’s colleges, departments and faculty, student support services, and international sites where learning opportunities take place. This position requires knowledge of study abroad programming and general understanding of the interrelationships and the need for coordinated action within study abroad program development. This position also requires considerable administrative planning to develop creative solutions which integrate approaches across organizational lines.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
-Consult with faculty, students and prospective students to tailor summer study abroad information to meet their academic, cultural and personal goals.
-Consult with faculty in organizing summer terms and some semester-long term courses (ECU Tuscany); oversee faculty preparing budgets, itineraries, and minimizing health and safety risks to program participants.
-Serve as the main campus liaison for the ECU Tuscany Program including student recruitment, visa coordination with the Italian Consulate, and collaborate with faculty and administrators as the liaison for the Italy campus and any third-party providers.
-As an extension of the marketing role, represent the Office of Global Affairs at General Information Sessions, the Study Abroad Fair, Student Orientation, New Student Programs, Parent Programs, and other meetings of professional groups and organizations.
-Plan, organize and conduct general information sessions, focus meetings, orientation, pre-departure, and reentry programs and coordinate marketing and outreach activities.
-Develop marketing plans and branding initiatives to promote programs and recruit participants from ECU, other colleges and universities, and the general public where appropriate, including display advertisements, fliers, brochures, catalog copy, website postings, social media, national resources for study abroad, and study abroad fairs on and off campus.
-Develop and analyze information resources and training programs that will instruct participants and their families on health and safety issues in their destination country/countries so they can make informed decisions concerning preparation, participation, and behavior while on the program.
-Review and evaluate the financial management of all summer study abroad programs and oversee program budgets.
-Negotiate with international sites to determine the services to be provided and the related costs for instruction, accommodations and excursions that enhance the educational experience.
-Manage administrative and risk management issues; communicate policies, procedures, and deadlines.
-Lead the administrators and faculty on goals related to academic programming; serve on committees.
- Develop and maintain excellent communication and working relationships with administrative units on campus including Student Life, Registrar’s Office, and Financial Aid.
-Evaluate effectiveness of all programs. Analyze and assess success and use results to revise and enhance program planning.
-Perform other related duties as assigned or required. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.Minimum Education/Experience :
Master’s degree and a 3 years’ of work experience in a higher education setting. Demonstrated commitment to and interest in international education. Available to work some evenings and weekends. Able to travel domestically and internationally.License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation :

Excellent communication skills. Experience managing complex programs and resources. Strong analytical skills and the ability to work well under pressure.
