Description

The Applications & Systems Administrator, LMS is responsible for the operational, administrative, and technical specifications for the learning management system(s) (LMS) and supporting technologies, with additional direction from the Dean of Online Learning. The Administrator performs monitoring and maintenance for the LMS (Blackboard) and provides support to Online Learning programs and degrees in the administration of online courses and supporting technologies. The LMS System Administrator configures and supports the Blackboard environment; ensures data accuracy and integrity; participates in and/or leads the testing and implementation of Blackboard functions; and performs and documents changes related to Blackboard configuration and enhancements.
Additional roles will include interfacing with Technical Support and the ticket management system as well as all constituents of the LMS to troubleshoot issues and provide oversight and technical support of end-user processes. Works with LMS vendor (Blackboard) to develop and maintain LMS instances.
The role may include Systems Administration duties outside of the LMS in support of enterprise applications and servers.

This is a full-time, grant-funded position. This position is funded through May 10, 2022.

  • Responsible for the administration, maintenance, and development of LMS (Blackboard) SaaS platform, including but not limited to:
  • Implements application instances
  • Configurations changes as required, including testing and documentation of same.
  • Works with Vendor to patch, update or upgrade the LMS
  • Supports and maintains integrations with related systems including the College ERP, Single Sign On processes, reporting and analytical tools.
  • Researches methods and offers solutions for improved system operation, security and efficiency of the LMS.
  • Documents and tracks work within systems and reviews and updates documentation created by others.
  • Assists in the development of policies and procedures that affect the operation and use of the campus network, the LMS, and other related applications.
  • Oversees the implementation of third-party tools/software needed for teaching and learning, including the assessment of these tools for integration, security and compatibility with the LMS.
  • Ensures all data in the LMS is correct. This may include manually or automatically loading user, course, and enrollment data into the system(s) on a regular basis.
  • Resolves problems and answers routine questions without direct supervision.
  • Manages projects and priorities of service, as defined by management, ensuring administration is informed of opportunities, problems, or issues.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required in CIS, MIS, or related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience administering a Learning Management System, including integration methods such as building blocks, LTI integrations, API integrations, etc
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience with Microsoft Windows Server administration, MS Active Directory environment
  • Experience with internet protocols & services such as DNS, VPN’s, FTP, SFTP, authentication protocols and TCP/IP networks.
  • Working knowledge of User account management related to LMS access and permissions, as well as MS Active Directory
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications
  • Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.

  • Possess the ability to work well and communicate effectively with prospective and current students, staff, faculty, administration, and colleagues and community partners in large and small settings.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff and a commitment to a student-centered environment.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Blackboard Learn experience
  • Experience with LMS course design and content management
  • Experience with Cisco Unified Communication systems
  • Knowledge of network and cyber security best practices
