The School of Education (SOE) at Loyola University Chicago invites applications for two 1-year, full-time, non-tenure track positions as clinical assistant professor of teacher education. These individuals will join the Teaching and Learning (T&L) program area which focuses on Loyola’s teacher education program (TLLSC, or Teaching, learning and Leading with Schools and Communities). The selected individuals will join faculty in the SOE’s CAEP-accredited undergraduate and graduate programs, each of which is shaped around the SOE’s conceptual framework of advancing professionalism in the service of social justice.

The main responsibilities of these positions include the following:

Maintaining a 4/3 teaching load (four in the fall and three in the spring) of undergraduate and graduate teacher education courses and modules. Courses are offered in university classrooms, while modules are field-based learning experiences which primarily take place within partner sites. Enrolled students are pursuing Illinois teaching licensure in early childhood, elementary, secondary, and/or special education.

Fulfilling the service responsibilities of a clinical professor, including advising of students, service to T&L, the SOE, the larger university, community, and profession. Research and publication are not required, but opportunities for collaborative research are available and encouraged.

Joining and supporting efforts to address social justice through anti-racism and other efforts.

Collaborating regularly with T&L faculty across specialty areas in efforts to provide student supports, maintain high quality programming, meet accreditation needs and improve TLLSC.

Maintaining and enhancing existing partnerships with schools and community agencies. This includes building relationships with teachers and administrators on site alongside other faculty members.

Presently, credentials, background and teaching experiences in elementary education or secondary mathematics education (public or private) are preferred, although these positions may also involve the teaching of generalist modules for diverse students who have not yet chosen a specialty area. These modules include topics such as culturally responsive teaching, working with emergent bilingual students, educational psychology, and other topics. Successful candidates’ histories should indicate expertise in teacher education. Experience with clinical supervision is also critical given that TLLSC modules use an apprenticeship approach to building the knowledge and skills of future teachers.

We seek candidates who will collaborate with colleagues across the program, SOE, and larger university to build an anti-racist teacher education program. Candidates will also demonstrate a strong commitment to urban education and dedication to serving a historically minoritized P-12 student body in the greater Chicago area consistent with Loyola University Chicago’s commitment to advancing social justice through transformative education. Candidates will demonstrate a commitment to collegiality and collaboration within Teaching and Learning program and larger SOE and University community.

Minimum Qualifications:
1.Earned doctorate in Teacher Education, Curriculum and Instruction or other related fields, preferably from a CAEP accredited program.
2.Current or previous state educator licensure

Preferred Experiential Qualifications:

1.3+ years of experience as a teacher of PK-12 students
2.Experiences in elementary education (all areas) or secondary education (mathematics)
3.Urban education experiences and in efforts to address social justice
4.Successful prior work in teacher education
5.Supervision or field-based work with practicum students and/or interns
