Job Description:


The Early Childhood Center (ECC) provides a thoughtful, progressive curriculum for children ages 2 through 6 in preschool and kindergarten. The ECC programs are modeled on the Sarah Lawrence pedagogy, and it provides a setting for observation and research for Sarah Lawrence College students interested in child development and teaching. The ECC is a component of the Children, Childhood and Education collaborative at the College and thus works closely with the Child Development Institute, and the Child Development and Art of Teaching graduate programs.
The Administrative Assistant supports the ECC director to create and maintain contact with families, assist with all aspects of application and enrollment, develop organization and documentation systems, and liaise with ECC staff. As the person who is often the first contact by perspective families, this position requires someone who can easily communicate the ideals of the program and demonstrate clearly the value placed upon early education.


Essential Duties Summary:


Managing a busy front office that is welcoming to staff, children, families and SLC students. Coordinating communication between two ECC buildings
Communicating the goals and pedagogy of the ECC Daily phone and email communication with families
Recording and relaying messages in timely and efficient manner to appropriate sources Tracking applications and following up on all aspects of the enrollment and application process Collecting documentation from families and maintaining all aspects of confidentiality Maintaining and organizing children’s files
Researching, compiling and maintaining a database of ECC families, and SLC student interns, coordinating work with the College’s office of Alumni Relations
Creating and maintaining database for mailings and class lists
Supporting ECC faculty with classroom communication with families and duplicating needs Operating as a point of contact for class parents and ECC Parents Association Maintaining inventory of classroom and office supplies and ordering
Tracking, recording and reporting children’s immunizations Supervising student assistant office workers


Required Qualifications:


Prior office administration experience
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) Excellent oral and communication skills
Strong organization skills with an attention to detail Interest in creating new systems of organizing
Desire to work collaboratively in a lively work environment Flexible – willingness to step in when needed
Works well independently Enjoys working with children
