Facilities Management has an opening for a full-time, State Classified Lighting Control Technician (Electrician) positions.

Job Summary:
The Lighting Control Technician position ensures the availability and distribution of electrical power to the CU Anschutz Medical Campus, for use by, but not limited to the following systems: building automation systems, lighting control panels, computer network, and a multitude of other power applications. This position inspects, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance on electrical systems.  This position also programs changes to software and components for our campus lighting control systems, and manages projects and permits for installation of lighting control systems.

This Lighting Control Technician position  is classified as Electrical Trades II, which is a fully operating electrician. The work involves the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of electrical lighting control systems, maintenance of lighting control panels, diagnose malfunctioning systems. It includes planning new, or modifying existing installations, review existing lighting control programs and verify correct operation, connecting the power source, testing circuits, preparing sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, and repairing faulty equipment or systems with assistance from BAS group. Manage projects and permits for installation and maintenance of lighting control equipment.  Coordinate the update of as-built drawings by the lighting designer/ vender.  Support energy program by reviewing Occupancy Sensor operation for stuck on areas quarterly. Work is assigned by means of verbal or written orders and is carried out by the position in accordance with standard practices of the electrical trade. Positions in this class may direct the work of others.

Examples of Work Performed:

Electrical Installation (30%)

  • Installs various kinds of raceways, wiring, boxes, supports, fastening devices, lighting fixtures, lighting control panels, installation of low voltage cabling, relays, HVAC controls, and other devices. 
  • Schedules outages for lighting system firmware and component replacement. 
  • Maintains attic stock of inventory items for multiple systems lighting control systems.
Determine Scheduling and Methods (30%)

  • Meets with internal and external constituents to determine their needs then provides pricing information to same. If the pricing is within constituent’s budget tradesman, then determines scheduling and methods by which to perform the work.
  • Provides cost estimates for upgrades and includes costs for licensing, software, hardware, design, programming, installation and labor.
Preventative Maintenance (30%)

  • Receives PM work orders, performs preventive maintenance on assigned installed equipment, logs and reports as required.
  • Operates university vehicle to transport necessary tools/equipment to work sites across campus.
Training (5%)

  • Provides training on lighting control device replacement and basic electrical troubleshooting skills for identifying issues with the existing zone settings of lighting control panels.
  • Provides training and assistance to non-electrical CU staff on lighting controls repairs and new installations to ensure compliance with electrical code, CU Construction Standards, accepted good trade practices.
  • Provides training on functions of the lighting control systems and devices.
Emergencies, Special Events, and Other Duties (5%)

  • Participates and assists in emergencies based on the magnitude and nature.
  • Supports various special events both in preparation and during the event (i.e. Commencement).
  • May be assigned other duties as required.
Salary & Benefits:

  • Hiring Salary Range: $56,268 - $62,208 annually

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must possess a current electrician license issued by the State of Colorado - license must at least be at journeyman level
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience at the level of Electrical Trades II (or equivalent) as a lighting control technician and/or assisting skilled licensed electricians in the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of lighting control systems, appliances, devices, and/or verifying up to date lighting control systems software
  • Experience working with lighting control panels and devices
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing malfunctions in existing electrical systems & building automation systems connection to the lighting control panels
  • Experience providing training on basic operations of lighting control panels and basic electrical troubleshooting skills.
