Department The Division of Student Affairs Department of Student Engagement is a team of vibrant, innovative, and student-centered individuals. Our staff consists of twelve (12) full-time employees and three (3) Graduate Assistants. We employ elected officers from the University’s Student Government Association’s Executive, Legislative, and Judicial Branches and Congress of Graduate Students, as well as student assistants in all three programmatic areas. Responsibilities The Student Program Coordinator for Traditions within Student Organizations & Involvement is a member of the dynamic Student Engagement department, supporting tailored student experiences focused on connection, belonging, evolving, impact. Provides direct support for campus traditions and programming including Homecoming, Garnet & Gold, Welcome FSU, Nole Grad and more. Through all traditions programming this position focuses on enhancing the inclusive campus environment. Assists with the student organization recognition processes and organization and advisor training, creating inclusive and purposeful programming, training, community building activities, and assessments for staff and student leaders. Supervises one Graduate Assistant and up to two Graduate Interns, providing support and overall vision of inclusive student experiences and engagement. Co-advises the Homecoming Council in their year-round positions and Spirit Force for their semester long commitments. Attends meetings and events, meets one-on-one with student leaders, and provides guidance and support. Coordinates student leader and volunteer on-boarding, training, development, and transition for campus-wide traditions.

    Establish and maintaining working relationships with key campus partners and students. Develops and implements assessment initiatives for traditions programming.Attends department sponsored events and programs, and establishes connections with students, supports financial literacy, freedom of expression, university policies and procedures, and has an overall knowledge of student engagement. Coordinates student leader and volunteer on-boarding, training, development, and transitionfor campus-wide traditions.Participates in the Engagement Team and DSA initiatives, programs, and events to craft and support a vibrant student experience and build community. Support signature events for the department and division, creating and supporting tradition building activities for a vibrant student experience.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and two years of experience; or a high school diploma/equivalency and six years of experience.

(Note: or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years.)

  • Outstanding communication, writing, presentation, facilitation, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of: student development, program coordination, student leader advisement, leadership development, and conflict management.
  • Evidence of advising skills in policy, and student life programming.
  • Sensitivity to student needs and the ability to relate on many different levels to a diverse student, faculty, administrative, employer, parent, and community contacts this position encounters is also essential.
  • Willingness to work nontraditional work hours is necessary
Preferred
    Master’s degree in higher education/student affairs or related fieldBachelor’s degree with related higher education experience. The successful candidate will be student-centered, have strong multicultural competence, and be a collaborative educator and programmer. Experience in supervision, student programming, and advising experience preferred.
