Job Description

Under general direction the Academic Success Coach will provide academic consultations to students who are struggling academically, refer students the appropriate offices, take intrusive measures to intervene at key points in a student's semester, year, and academic experience. This position will offer support to undergraduate students by monitoring their progress throughout the semester to enhance success as measured by term-to-term retention and grade point average.

This is a term limited position anticipated to start as soon as possible with an anticipated end date of 05/31/2022.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Provides academic program consultation, referral, and follow-ups on a weekly basis for students. Meets one-on-one to build rapport and develops an academic and personal plan to promote student success. Coordinates group academic skills instruction programs for at-risk students.

  • Educates undergraduate students about University wide resources and acts as a liaison to all current internal and external resources. Interprets and applies institutional policies, procedures, and regulations related to academic programs and academic standing.

  • Monitors and records progress of individual students using the early alert system to access GPA and semester-to-semester retention rates. Works as a liaison with faculty and academic advising to case manage at risk-students. Disseminates information on programs and services to students, faculty, and staff as needed, through various modalities.

  • Manages Civitas and Cognos to help support student success.

  • Provides academic coaching sessions. Assists students' self-efficacy development for college and beyond.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in applicable.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Student Personnel Services, Education, or Guidance and Counseling.

  • One year of experience in academic services in higher education primarily working with at-risk student populations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to use the student information systems, BANNER.

  • Ability to use early alerts systems, scheduling systems, and CRM systems.

  • Ability to use good judgment and work effectively under pressure.

  • Ability to work as a member of the team. Ability to work individually or in groups to complete projects. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

  • Demonstrated experience in and commitment to working with a diverse population.

  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations to students and faculty.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and provide excellent customer service to students, employees, and the community. Ability to multi task. Excellent verbal and communication skills.
