Job Description:

As a member of UFHR Employee Relations Health Science Center (HSC) Office, serves as an advisor and consultant on human resources issues to administrators and employees in the Colleges of Medicine-Gainesville and Jacksonville, Dentistry, Nursing, Public Health & Health Professions, and Pharmacy. Responsible for assisting with the coordination and administration of a comprehensive employee relations program for faculty and staff. Assists with employee coaching and counseling, disciplinary action, layoffs, and other employee relations functions as required.Responsible for supporting a comprehensive employee relations program for faculty and staff in the UFHR Employee Relations HSC Office. Assists departments with coaching and counseling employees and serves as an employee relations representative at various meetings. Recommends appropriate course of action based on a review of pertinent information, and drafts counseling letters, disciplinary actions, and various other employment actions. Prepares comprehensive case summaries. Interprets and communicates applicable regulations, policies and procedures.


Supports UF Engaged, the Employee Relations performance management initiative. Is proactive in supporting partners to foster the development and growth of a performance-based culture, including, but not limited to providing consultation on performance management issues, and working to create a culture of feedback and accountability. Provides the guidance and coaching necessary to effectively build leadership skills in managing workforce interactions among HSC managers. Is proactive in identifying workforce engagement opportunities to improve and enhance the working environment and leadership capabilities throughout the HSC.


Works collaboratively with HSC college HR liaisons on developing and advancing initiatives in support of organizational development strategies and college human resources initiatives. Serves as a consultant to Deans, unit administrators, and managers


Coordinate’s layoff process for assigned HSC area including time limited end and courtesy notices. Reviews and analyzes layoff justification and impact. Drafts appropriate layoff correspondence for supervisors. Assists departments with reorganization efforts, reviews personnel impact of such actions. Meets with supervisors and employees affected by impending layoffs and provides guidance and/or interpretation of layoff rules and procedures including unit determination.

Assists departments with probationary employee actions, including probationary check-ins, extensions, and probationary dismissals. Follows up with HR liaisons after probation actions occur to determine appropriate measures to support the probationary process.

Expected Salary:

$49,407.79

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and one year of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of personnel management principles.

Ability to collect, evaluate, and analyze data relating to employee relations activities.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Ability to work independently while producing high volume of outcomes.

Ability to work with confidential information.

SPHR or SHRM certification preferred.
