GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

The mission of the SBDC regional director is to help entrepreneurs start and grow successful businesses. The director provides one-on-one counseling, workshops, learning opportunities, and connects entrepreneurs with appropriate resources. All for-profit small businesses will be served with a focus on those who will have a significant impact in the Benton, Jones or Linn county areas. Position reports to Vice President of Continuing Education & Training Services.

  • DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide free, confidential, personalized business counseling to both start-up and existing small businesses.
  • Identify small-business training and educational needs and use this information to offer participatory classes, workshops and training sessions to complement individual counseling and self-guided online resources.
  • Manage the operations of the Center to include budgeting, networking, partnerships and compliance.
  • Maintain a network of business and community resources and connect entrepreneurs with those resources when appropriate.
  • Make grant funding proposals and presentations to key economic development stakeholders and funders.
  • Work with community leaders to promote small-business awareness.
  • Manage client counseling activity and balance with available resources.
  • Take direction from an Advisory Board, including twice-a-year meetings.
  • Work with Kirkwood Community College Continuing Education and Training Services to promote business training, consulting, and economic development to meet the goals and mission of the College and the mission and goals of the SBDC program
  • Supervise and evaluate support staff and consultants.
  • Participate in the statewide SBDC strategic planning process.
  • Use database applications to create and manage files and communicate requested information, maintaining confidentiality.
  • Provide outreach to gather impact metrics, perform administrative record-keeping and encourage client participation in impact surveys.
  • Perform other work duties as assigned.
  • PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:

  • Exceed annual minimum performance metrics established by the SBDC State Office.
  • Willing to represent the SBDC and the College in a positive manner.
  • Must be self-motivated and creative with strong computer skills.
  • Able to communicate clearly, concisely, and logically.
  • Must have own transportation to travel to on-campus and off-campus meetings.
  • Maintain professional relationships within the community and promote the SBDC.
  • Welcome, value, and nurture people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences as well as support and promote an environment that accepts differences.
  • Timely submit required documentation to SBDC State Office.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client services and records.
  • Contribute to the strategic vision and work plan of the Iowa SBDC network.
  • Attend ASBDC fall conference.
  • Complete Certified Business Advisor Course within 12 months of commencement of employment.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of ten years experience in business required.
  • Substantial experience in small business.
  • Prior business ownership required.
  • LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

    Valid driver’s license required.
