We are currently seeking a Full -Time Coordinator of Childcare Centers who will adhere to the aforementioned mission statement and who will oversee the daily activities of the Hagy Center for Young Children and the Child Development Lab School.

GENERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Development (or related field).

Preferred: Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited College or University.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:

Required: Current First Aid/CPR Certification (or willingness to obtain).

Preferred: Daycare Director License.

EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • Experience with the Texas School Ready Program.
  • Experience with the Texas Rising Star Program.
  • Experience with the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience working with early childhood programs.
  • Experience working with economically disadvantaged families.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress and self-control in the presence of children.
  • Ability to problem-solve situations, motivate staff, and develop employees.
  • Strong organizational skills required.
  • Ability to deal with people in a professional manner.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain an awareness of Early Head Start standards, Child Care Licensing Minimum Standards, National Association for the Education of Young Children standards, and disseminates information to all center staff as needed.
  • Ensure that all staff receive training required by Childcare Licensing Minimum Standards for center staff.
  • Ensure that all staff receive training required by the Director of Education Preparation and Child Development.
  • Monitor the daily staff schedule of the early childhood centers to ensure proper ratios are always maintained.
  • Supervise and evaluate assigned staff at the early childhood centers.
  • Engage in respectful, goal-oriented partnerships with families to promote student success and family well-being.
  • In cooperation with the Director of Education Preparation and Child Development, manage the daily operations, maintenance, and safety of the Center according to established policy.
  • Maintain documentation required by Childcare Licensing Minimum Standards for the Child Development Lab School and Hagy Center for Young Children.
  • Perform licensing checks and walkthroughs at the Child Development Lab School and Hagy Center for Young Children to ensure each classroom meets Childcare Licensing Minimum Standards.
  • Maintain required certifications and licenses.
  • Assist with the documentation and implementation of attendance monitoring practices as needed.
  • Facilitate parent meetings with the support of the early childhood center supervisors.
  • Assist with the documentation and implementation of the Child and Adult Care Food Program.
  • Recruit for the Child Development Lab School and Hagy Center for Young Children.
  • Complete applications and carry out related duties regarding the registration process.
  • Enter application data into Pro-Care and other software technology sources as needed.
  • Monitor data entry into software by early childhood center supervisors, teachers, and administrative assistants.
  • Contact Head Start families as needed to support enrollment.
  • Monitor and assist all staff with time sheets.
  • Addresses partner, parent, and staff concerns in a timely and effective manner. Refer questions and concerns to Director of Education Preparation and Child Development when appropriate.
  • Provide school tours for new and potential families as necessary.
  • Assist early childhood center supervisors with orientating parents, including parent handbook and school policies as needed.
  • Maintain courteous and professional communication with staff and parents.
  • Assist in classrooms as necessary.
  • Attend regular staff planning meetings and parent events.
  • Collect and analyze information to find innovative solutions to challenges to report in annual assessment plans.
  • Comply with all college, state and local policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Secure and safeguard all property, equipment, and training material including credit cards (if applicable) issued by Amarillo College.
  • Adhere to the Amarillo College Travel Policy guidelines as written.
  • Maintain a commitment to discretion and confidentiality concerning sensitive information, and perform additional duties or job functions required/deemed necessary by supervisory personnel.
  • Participate in professional learning and development as required under state or local contractual agreements and/or Amarillo College.
  • Complete all work-related tasks in a neat, orderly and timely manner.
  • Exhibit professional behavior while assisting with the needs of students, faculty, staff, visitors, and co-workers.
  • Conduct self with professionalism and respect toward others.
  • Participate in and complete performance assessments/evaluations as assigned.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed. Performs physical activities that require considerable use of arms, legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.

Work Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.)

Work Environment: This position operates in a childcare environment, requiring regular sanitation. Employee will experience daily exposure to household cleaning supplies, frequent distracting noise levels and interruptions. Must be able to tolerate cleaning products and sanitizers, work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); regular exposure to noise; frequent exposure to bodily fluids.

Travel: Frequent region wide travel and occasional statewide travel.

Salary: Aligned with the current published salary scale for the represented position grade, commensurate with experience.

Established in 1929, with 86 students answering the inaugural roll call, Amarillo College today is a vibrant, multi-faceted community college that typically enrolls about 10,000 students in academic classes at six campuses and an outreach center.

Over the past six years, Amarillo College opened a counseling center, a legal aid clinic, a career and employment center, and a childcare center. AC also launched an Advocacy and Resource Center, which houses a food pantry and connects students with social services provided by more than 60 local nonprofits.

Since their inception, AC’s initiatives have led to steady gains in A-to-C pass rates, fall-to-fall retention, and three-year graduation/transfer rates, which among first generation students have increased from 12 percent to 21 percent.

Additionally, the percentage of students who attend AC on a full-time basis continues to climb – 75 percent of AC students attended the College part time in 2015, while only 57 percent were part-time students in 2018.

The College enjoyed its largest graduating class ever in May of 2019, when more than 1,000 students were awarded credentials of completion.
