Director of Marketing and Communications, College of Education, Health & Human Sciences

Regular, Full-time, MR13

The College of Education, Health & Human Sciences seeks to hire a Director of Marketing and Communications. This position serves as the chief architect and strategist for marketing, branding, communications, and media relations across the college including all units, centers, institutes, and programs. The director is responsible for leading and directing a college-wide, collaborative effort to enhance the college’s brand and reputation among key stakeholders and target audiences through effective design and implementation of marketing and communication strategies. The position reports to the dean and functions as an integral part of the college’s six-person leadership team.

Responsibilities:

STRATEGIC MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS

  • Develop annual and long-range marketing and communications strategies and goals based on college and university priorities and goals
  • Work directly with departmental leadership to develop marketing and communication initiatives, ensuring that these efforts not only contribute to the success of each unit, but are also aligned with the strategic vision and distinctive brand of the college
  • Collaborate with campus and university-level communication officers and administrators to ensure the college is proactively contributing from a marketing perspective to the university's brand and initiatives
  • Develop a robust and data-driven understanding of the college’s target audiences and influencers that is relative to the attitudes, opinions, and behaviors that drive levels of positive engagement and revenue impact by core stakeholders
  • Work with college and departmental leadership to strengthen community relations and relationships with donors and alumni, key corporate partners, potential students and faculty, public officials and policy makers, and other core constituents of the college
  • Identify and prioritize strategic communications needs for the college, inclusive of all departments, with focus on strengths and opportunities that should be pursued
  • Evolve the college’s brand to capture attention, support enrollment, increase donor development, and develop corporate and community partnerships
  • Analyze and evaluate ongoing programs to identify where adjustments or improvement can be made. Adapt existing plans to ensure success
  • Oversee the implementation of complex and focused marketing campaigns using a multitude of layered marketing mediums and approaches in order to meet goals
  • Create marketing and communications programs and initiatives to address short- and long-term opportunities and needs, within specified timelines, and within available college resources
  • Complete professional development opportunities in order to keep up-to-date with the latest industry knowledge, skills, and best practices
STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP

  • Provide strategic communications counsel to the dean, associate deans, and the dean's leadership team
  • Represent the college at conferences and in the community as needed
  • Engage in meetings with department leadership to make critical plans and decisions
  • Ensure resources, training, and direction are provided for dedicated marketing staff housed across 8 departments, 17 centers, and multiple programs
  • Determine and build appropriate staffing-level and structure needed to accomplish strategic marketing and communication goals of the college
  • Supervise reporting and record keeping with regard to marketing metrics
  • Conduct periodic reviews of best practices among other top-tier universities
MANAGEMENT & SUPERVISION

  • Manage and delegate to skilled marketing and communications professionals that serve in specialized and critical roles
  • Mentor marketing and communication professionals across the college
  • Evaluate team workloads and priorities and ensure effective operations through process improvement and coordinated collaboration with college departments and units
  • Prepare and manage a yearly marketing and communications budget
  • Prepare and evaluate requests for professional services and manages service providers


Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Required Abilities and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum of six years of progressive experience in a related field
  • Strong writing, editing, and computer skills
  • Understanding and working knowledge of the strategic use of on-line/digital and social media marketing
  • Strong management, organizational, analytical, project management, and decision-making skills
  • Strategic leadership skills
  • Ability to motivate and manage others
  • Strategic thinking skills
  • Strong creative ability
  • Deep knowledge of various marketing vehicles and how to layer/use them to build a cohesive brand
  • Public Speaking skills
  • Ability to mentor others
  • Knowledge of marketing/communication in higher education
  • Innovative problem-solving skills
Preferred Abilities and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in a related field and eight or more years of progressive experiences in a related field
  • Knowledge of design programs such as Adobe photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator
  • Photography and video skills
