Organizational Unit Overview:

The Department of Family Medicine is one of eleven clinical departments at the Brody School of Medicine. The purpose of the department is to improve the health of the people of eastern North Carolina through leadership in Family Medicine education, research, and health care services. The department provides accessible, high quality health care for its patients.

The Department of Family Medicine consists of seven divisions, as well as a central administration office. Each division has a responsibility that supports the overall mission of the department. The divisions include educational development, research, medical student education, residency, geriatrics, clinical services, and sports medicine. Clinical activities take place in the Family Medicine Center, Robert and Frances Monk Geriatric Center, Firetower Medical Office, nursing homes, Vidant Medical Center and in the community.

Job Duties :

The Nurse Manager provides goal-directed patient care to families and patients, under general supervision, utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process; delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired results. The Nurse Manager promotes an environment that is respectful of others, accountable for outcomes, and adaptive to change. The Manager is responsible for the planning and comprehensive operations of assigned units within the Department of Family Medicine.

CLINICAL SUPPORT POSITION – NOT SUBJECT TO STATE HUMAN RESOURCES ACT.

The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with Vidant Medical Center. Vidant Medical Center is the flagship hospital for Vidant Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Graduation from a state-accredited school of registered nursing and three years of nursing experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must have a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

License or Certification required by statute or regulation:

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Three years nursing experience which includes at least one year of supervisory or management experience in a nursing setting required.
