Organizational Unit Overview:

University Communication (UC) translates ECU’s message into strategic and compelling communication and campaigns through the university web site, news releases, its official social media, East magazine, storytelling, production of promotional videos and video news stories along with infographics, creation and development of promotional brochures, and annual reports. The purpose is to provide strategic communication and marketing guidance and support to increase the knowledge, understanding, appreciation and support of the University and its work with broad and varied constituencies, from prospective students to identified thought leaders to prospective donors.

Through ECU News Services UC performs media relations, public affairs, internal communication and strategic communication work on behalf of the university and reports and disseminates information about events, activities, research, policies, individuals and alumni of the University, both through the media, videos,, the university website and through owned publications and other forums.

UC, through Creative Services, works with all university departments to conceptualize, design, develop, and produce written, audio-visual, digital and print projects to brand, communicate, and market their messages to appropriate audiences. Creative Services also provides strategic marketing advice for the university, including performing advertising buys for the university.

Job Duties :

Duties of this position include but are not limited to:
•Uses stories, photographs, videos, graphics, and other tools to advance the university’s goals in a creative, engaging manner.
•Collaborates with university partners to promote institutional and college/departmental initiatives, campaigns and awards.
•Maintains a lively takeover program, guiding students and faculty on best practices for live event coverage on Instagram and Snapchat.
•Utilizes social media management platform,, to optimize content and support ECU’s social and digital strategy, growing core account following and regularly engaging with the audience.
•Directly supports the efforts of the Chancellor’s Division, ECU News Services, and University Marketing, providing social media strategy through advising and written plans, as well as reports for leadership on media relations, crisis communications, and other initiatives.
•Manages ECU’s online reputation, monitoring, and reporting/responding to mentions when necessary through real-time alerts.
•Analyzes and regularly reports data from social media listening and measuring services via
•Monitors social media trends to identify and pursue opportunities to explore emerging social media platforms and technology.
•Defines and nurtures university voice and personality for each platform to most effectively connect with followers.
•Works with Digital Media Specialist to design and maintain and, including brand standards, best practices, registration guidelines, etc.; maintains account directory and assists with new account creation; composes monthly tips newsletter for 100+ university-registered accounts.
•Develops a university social media counsel to identify best practices and trends, build social media advocacy throughout the university, and provide training opportunities for social media.
•Plans and implements a social media ambassadors program.
•Serves on campus committees as a social media advisor.
•Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

License or Certification required by statute or regulation:
