POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant Dean of Nursing for Pre-Licensure Programs is a member of the full-time faculty (rank commensurate with experience). The primary responsibilities of the position is to supervise BSN Program Directors to ensure that SACSCOC and CCNE accreditation standards, state board of nursing regulations and state agency regulations are met, as well as existing and new program content delivery are of high quality and align with the pedagogical design of active and effective learning while providing an engaged and supported student experience. The Assistant/Associate Dean is responsible for leading the program directors to each achieve high levels of student experience, student retention and program enrollment growth. The Assistant/Associate Dean will also participate in activities that promote the stature of the College’s academic programs and departments and the College itself while abiding by the direction set by the South University Board of Trustees and administration. The Assistant/Associate Dean assures that the South University philosophy: quality services to clients; development, growth, involvement, recognition of employees; sound economic principles; and environment which is conducive to innovation, positive thinking and expansion are at the core of execution of the duties and responsibilities of this position. Note: The position will be titled either “Assistant” or “Associate” depending on the successful applicant’s experience.



KEY JOB ELEMENTS:

  • Teaches four courses per academic year
  • Oversees the implementation of the vision and plan for the College’s strategic and programmatic development and expansion in support of South University’s growth and competitive position
  • Supervise the educational process to ensure every student and faculty member is involved in a positive educational experience through the learning, teaching, and social environment
  • In partnership with campus academic leaders, develop robust conceptual frameworks, student learning outcomes, and direct and indirect measures to assess and improve the quality of all pre-licensure nursing programs ; working with University Academic Affairs personnel lead annual reviews to monitor program effectiveness
  • Collaborate with CONPH leadership team in developing project plans for new programs/curriculum in line with University initiatives
  • Assist the Dean for the College of Nursing and Public Health in monitoring, reporting, and compliance with State Board of nursing & other compliance requirements as directed
  • Attend the campus-based State Board of Nursing meetings in collaboration with the Program Directors
  • Report, as required, on the status of program quality and the effectiveness of the College, including the achievement of outcomes, student retention, curriculum currency and rigor, faculty performance and credentials, and adequacy of academic support services. Manage the reporting and tracking of key academic metrics used to monitor performance of the nursing programs including but not limited to: certification pass rates, program completion rates, and graduation rates.
  • Communicate consistently and effectively with the campus deans, Assistant/Associate/associate deans, directors and other South University administrators.
  • Provide leadership of and direction to Nursing faculty for pre-licensure nursing programs to identify initiatives to improve the student and faculty experience. Develop with these individuals’ action plans and then drive plan completion to attain the relevant goals of the South University Strategic Plan.
  • Ensure Program Directors and faculty are in compliance with South University’s academic policies and procedures, educational policies, SACSCOC and programmatic accreditation standards and state agency regulations; escalate any issues or concerns to the Dean of CONPH.
  • Assist the Dean of CONPH in organizing and scheduling faculty and staff work assignments
  • Review full-time faculty candidates according to SACSCOC and programmatic accreditation standards, along with the policies and procedures of the University, making full-time faculty (rank) hiring recommendations to the Dean CONPH,
  • Actively work to maintain professional accreditation of programs and the College
  • Advocate for annual budget needs for pre-licensure nursing programs consistent among all campus locations and provides input to the Dean of CONPH
  • Identify, organize, provide, and track faculty professional development opportunities in compliance with South University faculty development policies.
  • Investigate and resolve student and faculty educational problems or complaints requiring academic actions in consultation with pertinent individuals and departments, under the direction and approval of the Dean for CONPH according to the policies and procedures of the University
  • Participate in the development and execution of relevant Advisory Council Meetings.
  • Attend and meaningfully contribute to, campus meetings, faculty meetings, and other meetings as designated by the Dean of CONPH including but not limited to: pinning ceremonies; University graduations, community events, programmatic meetings and committee meetings.
REQUIREMENTS:

  • Held positions of increasing responsibility and leadership within a university or industry setting
  • PhD in nursing (Preferred) or Terminal degree from a regionally accredited institution in a nursing or a related discipline from a regionally accredited institution (or equivalent)
  • Current and unencumbered license as a registered nurse (RN).
  • Both online and campus-based nursing leadership experience.
  • Current and valid APRN Certification (preferred)
  • Teaching experience at the collegiate level, with online experience a plus.
  • Strong leadership and strategic planning skills.
  • Strong analytical and change management skills.
  • Strong fiscal and personnel management experience.
  • Experience with computerized administrative systems, including proficiency with the use of standard office applications on personal computers.
  • Ability to read, understand, interpret, and implement accreditation criteria and state agency regulations.
  • Ability to read, understand, interpret, and implement academic policies and procedures.
  • Ability to resolve inquiries and complaints from employees, students, faculty, regulatory agencies, or members of the academic or business community.
  • Ability to effectively present information to employees, students, faculty, academic and campus leaders, corporate leaders, and public groups.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and successfully meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively, cooperatively, and flexibly in a team environment.
ENVIRONMENT:

The individual must be able to travel out of the local area up to 20% to participate in a variety of meetings and conferences.
