San Joaquin Delta Community College District is seeking a One-Year Temporary faculty member for Instructional Designer/Technology Trainer. This position is an academic reassigned time position at 35 hours a week. The ideal candidate will share in the college's commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the general supervision and direction of the Dean of Regional and Distance Education, this position provides responsive instructional design support to faculty, and leads systematic professional development training activities that promote faculty readiness for hybrid and online teaching.

The successful candidate will provide evidence of knowledge and understanding of the racial, socioeconomic, and academic diversity within community college populations; the candidate will also show knowledge and understanding of how these factors relate to the need for equity-minded and culturally-responsive practices in the community college setting.

The Instructional Designer will assist faculty in the design and development of learning modules and online courses that align with best practices in online pedagogy, course design, equity, and accessibility standards. This position will support and guide faculty in utilizing principles of good instructional design and pedagogical theory and practice, research advances in web-based course development technologies, and recommend instructional technology resources.

This position interacts with many different individuals from across TrACs and departments, including working with committees, Academic Senate, and other campus governance groups.

Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  1. Provide hands-on consulting with faculty on course design, course development, learning objectives, course materials, assignments, and interactive activities coupled with assessment methods and teaching strategies for hybrid and online courses.
  2. Assist faculty in the incorporation of multimedia content materials in their online courses, within the learning management system, including images, video, audio and digital library materials using sound instructional design and pedagogical principles.
  3. Work with lead designated staff and faculty to develop, modify, or implement training on online course design, technology-mediated instruction, and online teaching.
  4. Train faculty in course design and online instruction; mentor faculty in the effective use of a learning management system (LMS) for delivery of hybrid, and online instruction.
  5. Work with faculty to align their courses with distance education best practices and procedures, and to assist faculty with making their courses peer online compliant.
  6. Consult with faculty to recommend multimedia tools and strategies.
  7. Assist the Faculty Professional Development Committee and Distance Education Committee in providing workshops on active learning techniques.
  8. Design and develop interactive multimedia content for use in courses coupled with providing training for faculty in multimedia skills and best practices.
  9. Support the value of the College: diversity, teaching excellence, student success, innovation and creativity, and service to the College.
  10. Work with faculty to examine and remediate one's instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively support diversity, equity, and inclusion to improve student success and close equity gaps.
  11. Assist instructors with developing assessment rubrics.
  12. Maintain currency regarding copyright, accessibility compliance (Section 504 and Section 508) regulations for all instructional materials, state authorization for distance education, and student authentication for online and hybrid courses.
  13. Engage in ongoing professional development and stay abreast of emerging technologies in online education and instructional design.
  14. Assist in the development of course templates for all departments.
  15. Support faculty in the review of Open Educational Resources for adoption and use.
  16. Keep current with new developments and maintain competency within the framework of support provided by the San Joaquin Delta Community College District.
  17. Maintain office hours and participate in additional service hours/activities that benefit the student, college, or community.
  18. Participate in departmental, divisional, advisory, campus-wide and community committees as part of the shared-governance process and service area needs of the District.
  19. Perform other necessary duties as specified in the faculty contract and outlined in Board Policy.



KNOWLEDGE OF:


  1. Online learning andragogy, theory and practice.
  2. National and regional trends and effective practices in online andragogy, distance education course design, and faculty professional development.
  3. Familiarity with State initiatives, projects and goals (i.e. California Virtual Campus, Online Education Initiative, Peer Online Course Review process).
  4. Equity and accessibility in online instruction including Open Educational Resources / Zero Textbook Costs (OER/ZTC).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's Degree in a related subject with 5 years of experience in instructional design, and successful experience in training development and delivery, preferably with academic technologies.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching strategies and techniques to different student abilities, learning styles, cultures, and ethnic groups.
  • Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching in a variety of settings, including but not limited to online, dual enrollment, and large lectures. A willingness to develop and utilize instructional materials, including lectures and labs for multiple modalities.
  • Ability to use innovative and creative teaching techniques (lecture and labs) and equipment such as multimedia hardware, current applications, and online instructional strategies. Working knowledge of Canvas is particularly desirable.
