Director, Student Accessibility Services

Job Description Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Student Affairs Officer, the Director of Student Accessibility Services manages the daily functions/activities of Student Accessibility Services Office in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; providing academic accommodations/equal access for students with documented learning, psychological and/or physical disabilities.

Specific Duties:

• Manages daily functions/activities of Student Accessibility Services Office (SAS) for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; providing academic accommodations for students with documented learning, psychological, and/or physical disabilities.
  Embraces the ideals of diversity and inclusiveness and supports the equal rights of all people by advancing the understanding and appreciation of differences including but not limited to: age, race, gender, ability and/or religious convictions

• Collects/Analyzes data for assessment (annual surveys); maintains SAS website; maintain confidential student records through use of Maxient database;

• Counsels/mentors students; provides individual case mgt. services to students receiving accommodations

• Schedules/proctors academic testing for students who specifically use our adaptive software as an accommodation. Provides training to students who have adaptive software, equipment and/or other auxiliary aids as an accommodation.

• Actively supports the teaching/learning process by providing training to the University community on best practices for serving and/or supporting students with accessibility needs, neuro diverse students, etc.

• Serves as member of the Behavioral Intervention Team

• Supervises/mentors grad students/interns from other college/university campuses, i.e. Cal State Fullerton and Argosy University

• Supervises, manages and evaluates assignments for American Sign Language interpreters (Main campus/ROC) and student workers for note taking assignments; secures texts in alternate formats from publishers

• Directs and make budget decisions regarding recommendations for expenditures (i.e. updating/buying computer software and/or other adaptive equipment

• Other duties as assigned

• Participates in staff meetings, professional meetings & professional development; serves as a department liaison to other campus offices/departments/faculty & staff regarding SAS services/concerns

• Serves as a Campus Security Authority CSA

Minimum Qualifications:

• Masters degree from an accredited school in Social Work, Counseling, Student Affairs Higher Education, or related Mental Health fields required

• 4 years working in an accessibility office or similar.

• 2 to 4 years of experience working with students with disabilities in a higher education setting.

• 2 years of experience working with a diverse student population in higher education

• Knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

• Knowledge of student accommodations in an higher education setting.

• Knowledge of FERPA, HIPPA, Section 504, ADAA, Clery Act, and Title IX.

• Knowledge of adaptive software and the skill set to train students on various programs

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of program assessment and best practices related to an office primarily serving students with disabilities.

• Knowledge of CAS standards and ethical practices. Previous experience working with Students Affairs, Counseling and Psychological Services, and housing.

• Knowledge of Universal Design-Pedagogy

• Ability to communicate and work effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community

• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to make effective presentations, facilitate an open exchange of ideas, and write clear, concise notes, documents and reports.

• Ability to work effectively and productively as a leader or part of a team through close collaboration and coordination with colleagues and others.

• Experience working with Maxient Database
