Job Summary

The position of Business and Marketing Development Officer for the Wind Energy Center (WEC) in the College of Engineering will be responsible for advancing the center’s marketing presence by acting as a liaison with the wind energy industry, state agencies, and beyond. This person will work with the Office of Development and alumni to create opportunities for sponsorship, engagement and giving activities. They will help with the coordination of activities, meetings, workshops, and special events to increase the visibility of the Wind Center to their partners, potential donors, and the general public. This position reports to the Director of the Wind Energy Center or designee.

Essential Functions

  • Liaison with the wind energy partners in industry, at the State level, and beyond. Support strategic opportunities for WEC level funding by coordinating proposals to various agencies, including foundations, State and Federal agencies.
  • Work with the Office of Development in Engineering and connect with WEC alumni to create opportunities for sponsorship both at individual, industry, and institutional levels.
  • Create innovative marketing and publicity opportunities, including web, social media and displays at key events. Develop and provide written and physical materials for print and distribution.
  • Coordinate hosting of key conferences and meetings of strategic importance to the WEC including working with vendors, managing attendance, caterers, and venue staff.
  • Support online educational and training initiatives that can generate new sources of income.

Other Functions

  • Under the direction of a faculty member nominated by the Wind Energy Center Strategic Advisory Committee, the proposed position will coordinate and develop and manage business development activities for the Wind Energy Center and assist with carrying out these tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Bachelor's degree
  • One year experience in business development and/or project execution in engineering or science related areas.
  • Demonstrated written and interpersonal communication skills, project management and organizational skills.
  • Superb attention to details.
  • Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Outlook, Google documents, graphic design and word processing.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and varying situations with a high degree of independence and initiative, competent judgment and discretion.
  • Excellent problem solving skills and collaborative work style.
  • Ability to carry out assignments in a timely manner, balancing the demands of concurrent and potentially competing projects.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of office records and research.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills including the ability to interact effectively and create and maintain harmonious relationships with a diverse population of staff, faculty, students and off-campus constituents.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and varying situations with a high degree of independence and initiative, competent judgment and discretion.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Experience working in a higher education environment with a broad understanding of development principals and administration.
  • Valid Class D driver’s license and proof of insurability
  • Advanced project management and organizational skills.

Typical office environment.

Additional Details

  • Hire and supervise up to 2 student employees.
  • Please note: this initial appointment is for one year with renewal for a second and continuing based on availability of funds and satisfactory job performance.

Work Schedule

  • Monday – Friday, 37.5 hours per week. Typical office hours.
  • Ability to work some nights and/or weekends as required.
  • Occasional day or overnight travel for off-campus events as required.
  • Expected start date: September 7, 2021
