Position Overview:

Teaches, advises and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined by the tenure and promotion policy in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook. Teaching, research, departmental/school and university service is expected. This position is full-time, temporary for the 2021-2022 AY.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

The successful candidate will teach a variety of introductory core courses per semester, both in Philosophy and Humanities (“Intro to Philosophy” and “General Humanities: Ancient to Medieval”), and may develop an upper-year undergraduate course in their area of specialty. Teaching load is 4/4 and may include courses in a variety of formats (face-to-face, hybrid, and online as needed). University service and scholarship are also expected.

Qualifications

Experience Required:

A completed PhD in Philosophy or a Humanities discipline from a regionally accredited or internationally recognized college or university by beginning of appointment; if the candidate holds a PhD in a Humanities field, an MA in Philosophy is also required and vice versa.

Experience Preferred:

Experience teaching a diverse student body and interdisciplinary material is preferred. Ability to diversify the curriculum, especially with a non-Western focus, is highly valued.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Familiarity with use of online learning management systems (for example: D2L).
