Raleigh, NCAbout the Department:
The Department of Nuclear Engineering offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in Nuclear Engineering. The Department houses excellent research facilities including the PULSTAR research nuclear reactor and the Center for Engineering Applications of Radioisotopes (CEAR) that has maintained continuous industrial funding since 1980. NCSU is a member of the consortia that manage Idaho National Lab (INL) and Oak Ridge National Lab (ORNL) for the US Department of Energy (DOE). In 2014 NC State was awarded a $25M grant by the DOE National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) to create the Consortium for Nonproliferation Enabling Capabilities (CNEC) comprised of 7 partner universities and 3 national laboratories. CNEC’s vision is to become the preeminent research and education hub dedicated to the development of enabling technologies and technical talent for meeting the present and future grand challenges of nuclear nonproliferation.
With an increasing faculty population and research areas/projects, there is greater opportunity for learning in the broad areas of fission reactor engineering, radiation applications, nuclear materials, computational science, plasma science, radiological engineering and fusion engineering.
