General Description

College of the Sequoias Community College District is seeking qualified adjunct faculty to teach courses in the Fire Technology program.

This posting is to establish a pool of qualified applicants to teach for the 2022-2023 Academic Year.

Currently recruiting applicants to teach Fire Investigations. In order to be considered, the individual must be listed Fire Investigation Instructor with the California Office of the State Fire Marshal, Division of State Fire Training, and be in possession of a Certified Fire Investigator qualification issued by the Division of State Fire Training, California Conference of Arson Investigators, or the International Arson Investigators Conference.

Adjunct faculty assignments may include weekend and/or evening classes at the Hanford Educational Center.

Adjunct faculty applications which meet the required minimum qualifications are kept on file for one year from the date the application is received.

Adjunct faculty positions are temporary positions and do not accrue rights to tenure.

Under the general direction of a dean or director, adjunct faculty will provide comprehensive classroom instruction to community college students.

Qualifications

The minimum qualifications for this position are:

Any Bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience related to course content. OR

Any Associate degree and six years of professional experience related to course content. AND

Experience that indicates a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical and learning disabilities. OR

The Equivalent

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching Fire Technology courses at the college level.
  • Demonstrated proof of advanced education and professional experience related to the course subject. (Advanced education is beyond Firefighter 2 level, California State Fire Training or equivalent NFPA-based instruction in a formal, certified, setting.)

    Organization

    College of the Sequoias is a two-year California community college offering educational and enrichment programs for the residents of its district in Tulare and Kings counties. The college was established in 1925 and moved to its current 62-acre main campus site in Visalia in 1940.

    In addition to the campus in Visalia, COS operates a full-service center in Hanford that is also home to the college's police and fire academies.

    COS also opened its Tulare College Center in January 2013. It is a full-service college center and the home of COS' agriculture program
