The Director of Nursing carries out supervisor responsibilities in accordance with the University's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

The Director is responsible for the supervision of all nursing personnel (excluding advance practice nurses) assigned to Student Health Services primary care department(s) which includes FT RNs, represented Medical Assistants, Student EMTs (clinical supervisor), and Per Diem RNs.

In addition, the Director of Nursing plays a crucial role on the leadership team in managing the operations of the Health Center. The employee also plays a key role in the flow of patients in the primary care department.

Required Skills
  • Masters degree in Nursing from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Nurse Practitioners preferred 2-4 years of management experience in healthcare.
  • 5 years of clinical experience including medical/surgical and out-patient primary care of young adults. Licensure to practice as a Nurse in the Commonwealth of MA. Skill requirements (include the complexity of position)
  • Desire to develop and lead a high-functioning team, dedicated to providing high-quality, compassionate care.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • A collegial style is valued. Strong interpersonal skills and customer service skills
  • Familiarity with principles of project management, process improvement Experience with an electronic health record system. Competence in standard nursing procedures (medication administration, immunizations, wound care, etc) Facility in working with/caring for diverse populations of patients.
