Position Summary:

This position is charged with coordinating the diversity program within the College of Veterinary Medicine. The employee in this position will provide oversight and direction for various diversity activities including recruitment and mentoring designed to increase the enrollment, retention, and successful matriculation of the student population from underrepresented racial, cultural and ethnic groups.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

1. Experience in cross-cultural communication as well as possess a clear vision and understanding of the purpose and goals of a culturally diverse student body.
2. Effective interpersonal and teamwork skills demonstrated through establishing and maintaining effective and cooperative work relationships with potential feeder programs and educational institutions and with CVM faculty, director, staff, potential students and their families.
3. Proven knowledge to manage multiple priorities in an organized manner both independently as a self-starter and with team members.
4. Results oriented, strong motivation, resourceful, and the communicating with diplomacy and tact.
5. Successful utilization of Microsoft Office suite. Learning and become proficient in other required UGA programs including Banner and an other newly implemented programs.

Duties/Responsibilities:

1. With limited oversight considers, develops, and implements a number of activities designed to promote diversity within the DVM program at the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM). Coordinates activities with a large constituent base including faculty, staff, students, other higher education institutions, secondary and primary schools. Efforts such as “VetCamp” are focused on developing a ‘pipeline’ of future applicants and candidates for the DVM program.
2. Develops and implements activities within the CVM involving faculty, staff, and students to enhance inclusiveness and raise awareness of issues related to diversity. Provides support to CVM students impacted by concerns related to diversity.
3. Develops and executes all recruitment efforts and schedules, including visitations or career fairs in high schools and two and four year institutions, especially historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) to encourage consideration of careers in veterinary medicine. Develops partnerships with schools counselors, science classes, etc. to promote academic excellence required for Vet College admissions and the VetCamp and Vet School For-A-Day activities.
4. Builds effective relationships with potential DVM candidates who are underrepresented minority students through mentoring and partnering with higher education institutions and high schools. Develops effective relationships with HBCUs, other minority institutions, and organizations that are involved in diversity matters.
5. Works with underrepresented minority undergraduate students on the UGA campus to support their matriculation to CVM. Partners with other higher education institutions and provides one-to-one advising for student considering enrollment at UGA-CVM

Duties/Responsibilities:

1. Coordinates the international veterinary student certificate program for UGA DVM students.
2. Facilitates a visitation program with Japanese and Indian veterinary colleges.

Duties/Responsibilities:

1. Coordinates and manages the annual 7-day VetCamp program including budget development and oversight, supports the determination of Program price to ensure it is self-supporting. Cooperates with faculty and others in the organization and scheduling of program content. Develops an effective process to ensure the event is well planned including: housing, meal service, labs, department rotations, transportation, and signage. Hires and provides oversight to camp counselors (Student Ambassadors). Coordinates national marketing efforts with the Public Relations Director.
2. Provides leadership and coordination of the “Vet-School-For-A-Day” program. This annual event attracts 300-400 individuals and requires effective and extensive organization of the application process, website, marketing initiatives, acceptance letters, signage, catering, and faculty presentations. Provides oversight of the budget considerations including utilization of foundation funds and any revenues.
3. Assists the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in program development efforts designed to expand funding/scholarship opportunities for underrepresented veterinary students.
4. Coordinates with the Dean of Admissions for recruitment of URMs, reviews application files and participates on the admissions committee.
