The University of Virginia, Department of Radiation Oncology is recruiting a clinical faculty medical physicist. Clinical responsibilities entail the full suite clinical medical physics activities related to external beam and brachytherapy radiation therapy treatments. Preference will be given to candidates with strong brachytherapy experience. The faculty member will be expected to participate in departmental teaching and initiate and participate in advanced development projects. The following ranks will be considered for this tenure in-eligible position: Assistant, Associate or Full Professor. Rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The Department of Radiation Oncology brachytherapy procedure suite has full anesthesia services and a CT on-rails to aid with applicator placement. Varian equipment is used for planning and treatment. For external beam, the department has a Siemens dual-energy CT—simulator, two Varian linacs, and two Tomotherapy linacs. Physics services are also provided for Neurosurgery’s Gamma Knife. We will begin treating with a Viewray MR linac in 2022 and have several linac replacements in the near future; therefore, there will be multiple opportunities for machine commissioning.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Ph.D. degree, completed by time of hire, in Medical Physics, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Engineering
Certification: Qualified candidates must be board certified or board eligible (minimum ABR certification in progress) in Medical Physics by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) or American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP).
Experience: Prior clinical medical physics experience is required. The ability to work in a team environment, leadership qualities, and problem-solving skills are highly valued.

COVID Vaccination Requirement
