The department head reports directly to the dean. The department head is responsible for teaching courses, designing and developing curriculum, evaluating student performance, and advising students. Additional responsibilities include assisting the dean with program development, personnel, budget, and equipment.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
This position requires a master's degree in dental hygiene or related field and current South Carolina dental hygienist licensure (SC DHL) and Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) with related experience. Candidates that do not have a current SC DHL and CDA will be considered and required to obtain within 3 months of accepting the position.
The department head will also have credentials appropriate to teach SC dental hygiene license, certification in Local Infiltration Anesthesia, and certification in Monitoring Nitrous Oxide Sedation. Ideal candidate must have experience managing accredited dental hygiene and/or dental assisting academic programs and dental clinics. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills are essential. Must be able to function in an environment characterized by continual changes in information technology. Leadership, budgeting, and scheduling skills are essential for this position.
