Position Description

The Welding Material Handler will collect, inventory, and distribute appropriate materials for use in NTC's Welding program classes. This part-time position works 19 hours a week for 52 weeks a year. Typical schedule will be Monday through Wednesday, 9:00am to 3:30pm. While these hours are typical, they may be subject to change as workload and needs of our customers and work areas change.

Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Collect steel and other welding materials from local and regional industries using NTC’s welding materials truck.
  • Operate forklift trucks at campuses.
  • Organize and sort steel, aluminum, and other welding materials for the welding department.
  • Work with NTC’s welding faculty and regional campus leadership to ensure material needs for the welding program are met at all necessary locations.
  • Use equipment and tools typically found in a welding shop environment to prepare materials for student use.
  • Maintain records for welding material inventory.
  • Work with Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing leadership when necessary to make arrangements for material pick-up, and to coordinate new material pick-up locations as needed.
  • Assist in the organization of welding supplies.
  • Perform general cleanup work as requested.

    Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a welding shop environment is essential.
  • Good physical ability and capable of lifting 60 pounds.
  • Valid Wisconsin driver’s license and the ability to meet NTC insurance carrier standards.
  • OSHA lift-truck certification.
  • Ability to maintain written and electronic inventory records and other related documents.

  • Successful completion of a diploma program in welding.

Required Employee Program Safety Training:Powered industrial trucks, slips, trips & falls, vehicle safety and welding, cutting & brazing.
