General Description: The Research Analyst will perform a variety of institutional research functions to support institutional effectiveness, including information analysis and presentation, research design, data extraction, statistical analysis, and development of SAS programs for the purposes of assessing student learning outcomes, reviewing academic programs and disciplines, informing decisions, and external reporting. This is a research position in the Office of Institutional Research and reports directly to the Associate Vice President of Institutional Research, Data Management and Analysis.
Duties and Tasks: The job involves qualitative and quantitative analyses of data, examination of related and unrelated situations, drawing conclusions, devising solutions and alternatives, and making recommendations in a timely manner to support institutional planning, policy formulation, and decision making. The position engages in examination of internal and external data sources to study performance indicators and student outcomes data. The position writes reports (with graphs/tables or other visuals) to present and communicate the data in an effective and informative manner. Using data, the position advises, supports, makes recommendations, and acts as a consultant to college administration, committees, and other constituencies..

Special Assignments:

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications:

Required KSAs: Knowledge of SAS software, SAS programming language, database structures, data mining, and MS-Office. Knowledge of research design and research methods. Ability to accomplish data exploration and analysis, including data mining and statistics, using SAS software. Ability to compile data, analyze data and systems, and to present findings. Ability to determine and apply appropriate research design and methods. Ability to determine data requirements. Ability to manage projects and work independently. Ability to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical staff. Ability to work effectively with other people. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. College course work and/or experience in programming, information systems, and research design and methodologies. Experience working with statistical analysis software (SAS, SPSS), information systems, and designing and conducting research with diverse data sources. Ability to prioritize and delegate tasks in a fast-paced environment and ensure the quality of work produced.

Minimum Qualifications: A degree or course work in social sciences, economics, or business or related field or combination of education and experience. Experience with SAS for extracting and manipulating data from relational databases and statistical analyses.

Preferred Qualifications:

Work experience in higher education and with student information systems. Master’s degree in a research-intensive field. Knowledge of online survey development and distribution. Experience with creating visualizations in Tableau.
