Description

The Materials Science and Engineering Department in the Tickle College of Engineering at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville invites applications for a full-time Accounting Specialist III.

This position assists the Business Manager in overseeing the fiscal functions of the department. This position will also provide direction and assistance to faculty and staff for fiscal compliance along with granting agency guidelines and will address questions and concerns in a timely manner. The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Input/review accounting transactions in IRIS
  • Ensures agency guidelines are followed on allowability of charges on awards
  • Assists with payroll reconciliation, deposits, procurement card processing, accounts receivable and accounts payable
  • Travel Processing for faculty, students and staff
  • Performs administrative functions, as needed


Qualifications
Minimum Required Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma
  • Minimum 5 – 6 years of accounting experience
Minimum Required Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles
  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Experience with spreadsheet, word processing, and presentation software (Microsoft Office)
  • Ability to prioritize, work independently, and work as a team member
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure with time-sensitive deadlines
  • Ability to work well with others in a diverse environment
Preferred/Desired Qualifications

  • Associates/Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related degree preferred
  • IRIS experience is strongly preferred
  • Experience in higher education
  • Knowledge of University fiscal and travel policies
  • Knowledge of Uniform Guidance
