The Division of Student Life at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville invites applications for the General Health & Wellness Coordinator position for the Center for Health Education & Wellness (CHEW).  This is an exempt, 12-month, full-time, non-tenure track staff position.

The Division of Student Life:

The Division of Student Life is comprised of approximately 400 staff members that serve our students through 19 departments and functions. Staff are actively engaged in the lives of our students, living and learning with them in our residence halls, student union, and other campus environments. The Department:

The Center for Health Education & Wellness (CHEW) empowers all Volunteers to thrive by cultivating personal and community well-being.  CHEW aims to fulfill this mission by helping the UT community prioritize holistic wellness. 

The Position:

Reporting to the Associate Director of the Center, the primary purpose of the position is to increase and support the health and safety of the campus community by developing, implementing, and presenting curriculum and educational events to address the health and wellness education needs of UTK Students.


    Coordinate, develop, market, implement, and evaluate all outreach programming and events related to health and wellness to meet the diverse and unique needs of the University of Tennessee community (including, but not limited to nutrition, cold & flu prevention, stress reduction, and sleep promotion); Review research data, guidelines, and campus policy to ensure prevention education is in alignment with national trends.Supervise Graduate Assistant in recruitment, training, and promotion of VOLS 2 VOLS Peer Health Educators; Teach a 3-credit hour academic course for training of Peer Educators.Manage general health and wellness social media content by designing and developing monthly social media plans, creating and posting images, and monitoring, moderating and responding to audience comments.   Create and sustain partnerships with department units, including Be Well Employee Wellness, Student Counseling Center, Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life, Student Health Center, Office of the Dean of Students, Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards, Center for Student Engagement, University Housing, Student Disability Services, University of Tennessee Police Department, Office of Title IX, and UT Athletics.



  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • 1 year experience working in higher education
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of public health promotion, prevention, and health equity;
  • Knowledge of social change models and principles;
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills;
  • Knowledge of student development theories and culturally relevant wellness models;
  • Broad cultural competence skills and awareness of intersectionality of identities;
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals with diverse social identities, including persons of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, and persons with disabilities;
  • Ability to present to small and large groups; Experience with group facilitation, building and maintaining work groups, coalitions, and partnerships.

  • Master’s Degree in education, sociology, women’s studies, human services, social work, public health, or related field.
  • Experience coordinating peer education programs.
  • 1 year experience working in health promotion/education.

Commensurate with experience and other qualifications.
