The Office of Undergraduate Admissions at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) invites applications and nominations for the position of Chief of Staff. We are seeking candidates who can contribute in meaningful ways to the diversity and intercultural goals of the University.

The Enrollment Management (EM) division comprises more than 150 full-time staff who serve our students through the following departments and functions: Undergraduate Admissions, International Recruitment, Transfer Center, One Stop Student Services, Financial Aid and Scholarships, University Registrar, Enrollment Management Communications, Enrollment Management Research & Analytics and Enrollment Management Operations.

Functions and Responsibilities:

This position will lead or oversee a variety of strategic, executive, administrative, and operational activities across functional areas of Undergraduate Admissions. This position will act as a “Chief of Staff” to oversee the entire department in terms of high priority strategic initiatives, operations, and overall office management. The position will lead the staff operations, budget, finance, handle all HR and personnel matters. Will also manage conduct issues and handle campus safety issues related to prospective students and applicants, including coordinating our behavioral conduct process for students that have not yet enrolled at the University. Will serve on the Advisory Committee on Admissions and manage our admissions appeal process. This position will also review and make admissions decisions on visiting students and non-degree students. The Chief of Staff will oversight on a wide range of disparate issues, and must have the essential skill of considering all things in the context of the "big picture and the long view", with working with the Associate Vice Provost & Executive Director of Undergraduate Admissions and to work with senior leaders in Admissions and in advancing the mission of the University and the department.

 



Qualifications
Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree is required. 3+ years’ experience in higher education or related field (high school counseling, recruitment, sales or marketing). Minimum 3 + years supervisory experience. Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, data driven decision making and relationship building required.

Preferred Qualifications:

5+ years in higher education or related field. 4+ year’s supervisory experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Successful experience and comprehensive understanding of admissions including extensive knowledge of policies and practices influencing the enrollment of students.

Supervisory and budget experience.

Excellent organizational ability, management ability, strategic planning, motivating a staff, knowledge of recruiting data bases, personnel and budgeting needs of a large and fast- paced office.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of university budget and personnel policies. Ability to work with staff concerning personnel issues.
