Job Summary: This position requires a trained service technician with commercial food service equipment installation and repair experience. Responsibilities include on-site troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, warranty work, and preventative maintenance (creating and following schedule) of all electrical, HVAC/refrigerant and mechanical operations of food service equipment at UA dining locations including 4 commercial kitchens. This staff member will have to work closely with food service operators, Facilities technicians, outside contractors, and others as necessary. Must drive from site to site.

Additional Department Summary: This position reports to the Director of University Dining Services.
The goal of this position is to ensure UA's food service equipment is repaired and maintained in a manner that serves UA's demand with minimal service disruption. This position for food service maintenance was established for the purposes of providing food service equipment maintenance with a specific responsibility for maintaining facility equipment in safe operating condition, addressing immediate operational and/or safety concerns, and monitoring and maintaining refrigeration units and kitchen equipment at all UA dining facilities. Must have EPA approved Universal Refrigerant Certification.

Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalence and five (5) years of verifiable mechanical experience in gas, HVAC/refrigerant and electrical food service equipment; OR three (3) years of verifiable experience accompanied with approved vocational certification.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report as determined by the insurance carrier. Final candidates who are not current University of Alabama employees must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.

Skills and Knowledge: Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills. Experience doing equipment maintenance. Self-motivated / excellent communication skills. Customer service oriented. Ability to read and comprehend construction drawings, and equipment spec sheets. Investigate and read technical manuals detailing food service equipment installation, maintenance, and repair procedures. Ability to perform the essential physical job functions/responsibilities of this position. Must be willing to attend approved training opportunities and maintain current knowledge about new equipment and controls related to food service equipment installation, maintenance, and repair procedures.

Preferred Qualifications: Previous technical training / licenses and or certification preferred such as CFESA certification.
