Primary Purpose of Department:

The Department of SIS focuses on teaching and research in intelligent systems, human centered design, cyber security, and health informatics. SIS is in a phase of significant growth in the numbers of students, faculty, and external funding. SIS has academic programs in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Web and Mobile Applications, Human-Computer Interaction, and Software Engineering at the Bachelors, Masters, and Ph.D. levels. The School of Data Science (SDS) is an industry-University-State partnership, led by CCI and involving collaborative efforts from other Colleges, such as Belk College of Business, the College of Health and Human Services, and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. SDS offers extensive University-wide academic, research, and executive education programs, augmented with an integrated data and analytics platform. Description of Work:

Teaching, Advising, Curriculum and Instructional Development – Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, advising and consultation, directing student research, curriculum and instructional development, and grading student work.
Scholarly Research, Creative, and Other Professional Activities – All tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to participate in expanding the knowledge base of her/his academic field by conducting research or engaging in other creative activities as appropriate to the faculty member’s discipline. Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to research may include but are not limited to: research/creative activity that generates new knowledge and/or synthesizes and/or integrates existing knowledge, publication, an on-going agenda for research, scholarly, and creative activity, and are expected to seek extramural support for their work.
Service to University, the Public, and the Profession – All tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to engage in a program of service appropriate to their discipline. Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to service may include but are not limited to: service to the administration and governance of the University, public service, and service to the profession.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Department of Software and Information Systems (SIS) at the College of Computing and Informatics (CCI) at UNC Charlotte is seeking applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor or tenured Associate Professor position, jointly appointed with the School of Data Science (SDS), another academic unit in CCI. Priority is given to applicants with a focus on applied AI, data mining, intelligent systems, security analytics, or health informatics. The ideal candidate would demonstrate expertise in cross-disciplinary and data-oriented areas as mentioned above, have a track record of publications, as well as have ability or potential to procure competitive external funding. This position will create bridges between data analytics and existing faculty expertise to leverage research strengths in both SIS and SDS.

The duties and responsibilities include research and teaching in areas of strength in the Department of Software and Information Systems (SIS) in the College of Computing and Informatics (CCI): cybersecurity, human centered design, intelligent systems and analytics, and health informatics.

Minimum Experience/Education:

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience:

Demonstrated achievement in original research and scholarship, demonstrated commitment to quality teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as demonstrated ability to contribute to diversity initiatives.

PhD in Computer Science, Information Technology, Informatics or a related field is required.

Necessary Licenses/Certifications:

Demonstrated ability to contribute to diversity initiatives, demonstrated achievement in original research and scholarship, and demonstrated commitment to quality teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level.

PhD in computing or a related field is required.
