Position Highlights:

The purpose of this position is to assist the University of Arizona, College of Medicine’s Curricular Affairs office in the development and implementation of curriculum and scholarly student activities in Medical Humanities. Curricular Affairs works to manage and develop the curriculum and assessment for medical students, years 1 through 4, at the University of Arizona’s College of Medicine. As part of this program, Curricular Affairs helps to manage the MD-MPH program, the Commitment to Underserved People (CUP) program, the Rural Health Professions Program (RHPP), the clinical skills lab, student assessment and program evaluation, and resident and faculty instructional development.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead the curriculum and assessment within acomprehensive Medical Humanities program across the four years of the MD program.
  • Collaboratively work with block directors, threaddirectors, clerkship directors and Curricular Affairs staff across all four years of the programto ensure successful integration of learning experiences that support Medical Humanities.
  • Connect with other departments at the University ofArizona and the Tucson community to initiate Medical Humanities opportunitieswithin the curriculum.
  • Assist Associate Dean of Curricular Affairs instrategic planning and facilitation of projects and initiatives in Medical Humanities.
  • Review evaluation and assessment data tocontinuously improve the quality of the Medical Humanities program.
  • Effectively and efficiently oversee management ofprogram resources, including administering budget.
  • Stay informed of best practices and innovativepractices in Medical Humanities, including integrating these into the curriculum (e.g., AAMCFRAHME report in 2020, other similar reports in the future).
  • Build the local and national prominence of theMedical Humanities program by participating in national grant opportunities for the Humanities;local, regional, and national peer-reviewed conferences; publications, particularly peerreviewed publications, in Medical Humanities.
  • Co-lead the Harmony Magazine creation annuallywith medical students, with continuous innovation in a digitalecosystem (e.g., e-magazine, Instagram or other communication methods).
  • Innovative mindset towards integrating digitalengagement in social media and electronic media to engage the Humanities and student publications(e.g., digital storytelling, Twitter threads, Instagram stories, vlogs, etc.).
  • Partner with Health Sciences Library and otherUniversity of Arizona campus stakeholders to co-curate Medical Humanities displays,presentations, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MD, DO or PhD degree.
  • Must have current faculty title in College of Medicine – Tucson.
  • Experience in curriculum development for Medical Humanities.
  • Strong oral and visual presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated collaborative leadership in engaging multiple stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

*Master’s degree in Fine Arts, Medical Humanities, or related field. *Experience in Medical Humanities in medical education programs. *Demonstrated curriculum development experience integrating feedback and innovating learning experiences for students. *Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, and organizational skills. *Demonstrated publications in Medical Humanities and demonstrated ability to foster student mentees to publication success.
