Job Details

The Department of Economics invites applications for a non-tenure track, one-year position at visiting assistant professor rank, beginning in the fall of 2021.  Applicants must possess a strong desire to teach and pursue research in a liberal arts environment in a department with a reputation for excellent teaching.  The successful candidate will teach both required and elective courses.  The ideal candidate will be able to teach courses in applied microeconomics. The areas of economics of income inequality and poverty, economic history, and economic geography are especially welcome. The college offers excellent research support to non-tenure-track faculty. The standard teaching load is 5 courses per year, normally with 2 – 3 preps. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Economics, although advanced ABDs may be considered. We encourage applications from women and historically under-represented groups as well as individuals who have experience in teaching in a multi-cultural classroom. The college is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching and scholarship.

The successful applicant must be authorized to lawfully work in the United States at Skidmore College. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.

CREATIVE THOUGHT MATTERS.

Company

Skidmore is a highly selective liberal arts college with a reputation for its creative approaches to just about everything. With its relatively small size and student-faculty ratio, the College is a close-knit academic community. Skidmore is known for its faculty of teacher-scholars devoted to the instruction and mentoring of undergraduates—approximately 2,400 talented men and women from some 47 states and 46 countries.

A great education is all about putting academic theory and creative expression into practice. That’s what our founder, Lucy Skidmore Scribner, believed. Skidmore’s not an ivory tower. Never has been. Never will be. It’s a place where faculty and students work together, then figure out how to use what they’ve learned to make a difference in the world. This practical focus often leads to cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches, where students carry multiple majors, student-faculty research is common, and internships and community service are standard. It also leads to interesting and unusual combinations of activities, frequently woven into an intellectual passion.

If this kind of experience resonates with you, why not take a closer look at Skidmore?
