Position:

The Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering (ABE) is seeking a Research Specialist to carry out research projects in the areas of Bioenvironmental Engineering (BEE) and Environment-Enhancing Energy. This position will be essential in lab development and management help for the Air Quality Lab as well as assisting the Lab Manager on the fan testing program of the Bioenvironmental Structures and Systems (BESS) Lab. This is a full-time, twelve-month, non-tenured, academic professional position with annual renewal dependent on availability of funding.

Qualifications:

An earned Bachelor's Degree in a technical or engineering discipline (including agricultural, biological, chemical, environmental, mechanical or related) is required. Prototype development experience and 3+ years of working research experience is also required. Previous experience with high-temperature-high-pressure reactors is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Applied engineering and project management skills

Responsibilities:

  • Conducting research on hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) of biomass, modifying the HTL pilot reactor, and recovering nutrients and resources from the post-HTL wastewater.
  • Lab development/Management: Help on managing the Air Quality Lab and provide assistance on air cleaning technology development.
  • Ventilation Equipment testing: Assist the Lab Manager on the fan testing program of the Bioenvironmental Structures and Systems Lab (BESS).

Salary: Commensurate with with experience and qualifications.

Research

Students and scholars find the University an ideal place to conduct research. The Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology is a model for interdisciplinary research, where eighteen research groups from sixteen University departments work within and across three broadly defined themes: biological intelligence, human-computer intelligent interaction, and molecular and electronic nanostructures. The University is also home to the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA).

Undergraduate Education

The University has a fundamental commitment to undergraduate education. Nearly 28,000 undergraduate students are enrolled in nine undergraduate divisions, which together offer some 4,000 courses in more than 150 fields of study.

Undergraduate admission is highly selective. In the 2001 freshman class, students in the middle 50% had ACT scores between 25 and 30 and ranked between the 83rd and 96th percentiles of their high school graduating classes.

The University enrolls over 9,000 graduate and professional students in more than 100 disciplines. It is among the top five universities in number of earned doctorates awarded annually in the United States.

The Arts
