The Research Scientist will carry out and help coordinate research in the area of Structural Biology in the Grosman lab. Participate in the planning of research direction, including new initiatives, and in preparing materials for publication.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Production and purification of Ion channels of the Cys-loop receptor superfamily, their re-incorporation into lipid environments, and their structural characterization using single-particle cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo-EM) techniques.
Single-particle analysis of cryo-EM data, from micrographs to atomic models.
Writing grant proposals and scientific articles as well as keeping abreast of developments in the filed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required: Ph.D. degree in Biophysics, Biochemistry, Physiology or Structural Biology. Postdoctoral experience in the structural characterization of Cys-loop receptors in lipid environments using cryo-EM single particle analysis.
Successful candidates will have exceptional communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Awareness of, and sensitivity to cultural and linguistic differences. Ability to assume responsibility to work independently with minimum guidance. Knowledge of methodologies in large scale protein production and purification, nanodisc preparation and single particle cryo-EM analysis software such as cryoSPARC, RELION, Chimera, PyMol, Phenix, BALBES and Coot.
SALARY AND APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
This is a full-time academic professional position appointed on a 12 month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Research
Students and scholars find the University an ideal place to conduct research. The Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology is a model for interdisciplinary research, where eighteen research groups from sixteen University departments work within and across three broadly defined themes: biological intelligence, human-computer intelligent interaction, and molecular and electronic nanostructures. Undergraduate Education
The University has a fundamental commitment to undergraduate education. Nearly 28,000 undergraduate students are enrolled in nine undergraduate divisions, which together offer some 4,000 courses in more than 150 fields of study.

The Arts
A major center for the arts, the campus attracts dozens of nationally and internationally renowned artists each year to its widely acclaimed Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. The University also supports two major museums: the Krannert Art Museum and Kinkead Pavilion; and the Spurlock Museum, a museum of world history and culture.
Other major facilities include the multipurpose Assembly Hall (16,500 seats); Memorial Stadium (70,000 seats), site of Big Ten Conference football games; and the Intramural-Physical Education Building, one of the largest recreational facilities of its kind on a university campus.
